Book Rec Monday: Everything competing for my attention has me thinking maybe I should just go ahead and join the circus as a juggler! I bounce between all of my devices as I valiantly try to get in the flow. Some of my internal conversations sound like a parent chastising a distracted child. "Come on, focus! Let's just get this done." I saw this book on LinkedIn last week and started the Audible version immediately. I'm several hours in and very impressed. First takeaway, I'm not lazy or undisciplined. Have you stopped to see how many changes are impacting your employees right now and through the end of the year? This is when numerous projects, updates, or initiatives get fast-tracked to make an end-of-the-year deadline. The odds are very good that the people leading those activities aren't communicating. This leads to chaos for your teams. Change fatigue is real and it's crucial to have an enterprise-level view of the changes in flight. It pays to take the time to understand the volume of changes across your organization and prioritize what is crucial for year-end and what can wait.

Blue Moon's first contract gig is an IT implementation with a well-known US retailer. I'm 3 weeks in and getting to know my client. Here are a few nuggets from my brain to yours. 1. Environment - more than anything, this will drive successful transformation. With this client, there is an air of transparency and honesty that is refreshing. It's clear that people are engaged and driving toward the same goals. The organization feels flat, no concerns about going through proper channels to ask a question. 2. Organization - Never underestimate the power of organized files and content. My first week was spent digging into communications, training content, presentations, and project plans from the prior phase. When organized well, it pays to be a hoarder! 3. Realistic timeframes - I've watched this group carefully consider all of the factors related to this rollout and ask some hard questions. How much time will we really get from our team members and SMEs during the holidays? With 20 integrations, what should the end-to-end testing schedule look like? You get the picture. They aren't afraid to bump a Go Live date to ensure success. The word refreshing is not strong enough to describe this approach. We'll see how successful we are in the end, but I envision nothing but rainbows and puppies at the end of this project.
