In 2001, Althemese Barnes formed the Florida African American Heritage Preservation Network as a way for Black history museums in the state to share information and resources. Today, this network encompasses approximately 30 museums, including the A. Quinn Jones Museum & Cultural Center, the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Historic L.B. Brown House. The African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund is proud to support this work and draw attention to what Barnes calls “our legacy, our legends, our community history” across Florida.
