What a journey this has been! As I finalize the details of my thesis proposal, I can’t help but reflect on such a key working experience that has solidified my passion for working in the clinical research space. This past summer, I had the amazing opportunity to be a Student Research Intern for GSK under the amazing leadership of Francisca O. Gbormittah, PhD. For years it felt like I was having difficulty entering the bio pharmaceutical space and when the time finally came it truly felt like a dream come true! I had every intention to build on my experiences in clinical research and my time as an intern gave me an opportunity to do just that! I was tasked with creating a database to support clinical in-use studies as well as performing laboratory experiments that would support chemical, manufacturing and control blinding studies for IV and sub cutaneous routes of administration. At the end of the work experience, I gave an oral poster presentation with my fellow interns where we were able to share our learning experiences with each other and with other GSK staff. I truly believe I stretched the most doing the lab experiments. With guidance from MDS personnel, we designed an experiment that I thought was fairly straightforward to execute but I quickly learned how much of a novice I was as a few hiccups were encountered along the way. 😂 I had the greatest paradigm shift when sharing the results with Francisca. First, she re-iterated that lab experiments don’t always go as planned and that even in the “mishaps” have immense value; as scientists we need to be adaptable, yet efficient. I felt like that data I collected didn’t answer the question proposed, rendering it invaluable and that it needed to be redone but I completely misjudged my results! The work I did answered the question proposed and would ultimately support the team as they continued to conduct efficient blinding studies. Aside from the opportunity to grow my technical skills, I was also able to network with various team members throughout GSK. Thank you so much to Camille Smith, Narendra Bam, Martin Bushell, Dave Wisnoski, Luke Poethig, Nour Srouji, Catherine O. Brown, Ph.D and many others for taking the time out to speak with me and share your career paths. Every single one of you provided such valuable insights that I will be sure to carry along as I evolve as a clinical research professional. Most importantly, thank you immensely to Loreen Bloodgood and Karen Barrett for your unwavering guidance and support from the application process to completion!! Thank you to MSM’s Career Services David V. Jones, Ed.D., CPRW and Brandon Pledger for your continued professional support. The person who started isn’t at all the person who finished. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity!

Clinical Research Coordinator II | 3 Years of Experience | Future Clinical Project Coordinator 🥼 | Willing to Relocate and Travel as required
Hi everyone! I hate to admit that I’ve been casually searching for a new position for over a year now and have completed 100s of applications but the interviews have been so minimal. I’ve paid for the resume reviews, the interview preps, the apps that give “exclusive” job opportunities and still nothing! I sense a shift coming and I’m not sure what to do! Any tips are greatly appreciated.
