Lead researcher, L&D Global Sentiment Survey

The results are in for the L&D Global Sentiment Survey 2024, and they are unlike anything in its 11-year history.   The key take aways:   1. AI dominates It’s not just #1 on the table, it’s #1 by an unprecedented amount, in every region, and across every work group. The scale of the vote is insane.   2. Skills and data are back to stay With AI taking so many votes – did anything else manage to rise up the table this year? Yes, two options did – see slide 3 of the carousel for the full table of results.   3. The ‘pandemic effect’ is over During the pandemic lockdowns there was a brief uplift in support for the more human side of learning. Votes for Collaborative/social learning and Coaching and mentoring rose. That’s over now, with a full focus on data and skills. It is the reversal permanent? (See slide 8 for more.)   4. Everyone has challenges In previous years, 40% of respondents answered the question ‘What L&D challenges do you face in the year ahead?’ This year, it was 94%. What were their concerns? AI and technology generally, and budgets and resources too. See slides 9-11.   We’ve never had so many replies to the challenges question. The 27,000 words were more than the length of Ernest Hemmingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. There’s no doubt about it – L&D feels under pressure. I’ll publish a follow-up report focused on this.   To download the full L&D GSS Report for 2024, click the link in my LinkedIn profile, or the link in the first comment below.   For more research like this, follow me. My next report, due out in early April, will explore use cases of AI in L&D: behind all the talk, who’s actually doing what?   Methodology: The survey ran for 59 days from 6 December 2023 to 2 February 2024. It had four questions, of which only one was obligatory: ‘What will be hot in workplace L&D in 2023?’ Participation was invited by email and social media. 3,270 people participated from 97 countries.   Thanks to the report partners making the survey possible:   Sponsors: OpenSesame, getAbstract, Speexx, Netex Learning, Learning Pool, Lexonis   Media partners: Learning News, Learning Technologies Exhibition & Conference, eLearningIndustry, OEB Global Conference   #GSS24 #learning #research #learninganddevelopment
