We are pleased to announce that the BKV-designed Buffalo Ridge development will be funded with Michigan State Housing Development Authority 4% tax credits! The affordable community's initial phase is part of a larger multi-phase mixed-use masterplan consisting of 188 townhomes (144 rental and 44 for sale), two 4-story wood-framed apartment buildings (72 units, 36 per building), a community center, and exterior amenities located throughout the 54 AC Site. The design merges the quaint historic lake aesthetic with a forward-thinking sustainable and affordable vision for the future. In meeting the standard proposal criteria, we are hopeful the rest of the lending process proceeds smoothly and successfully!

Over the years, Justice Practice Leader and Partner, Henry Pittner, AIA, has observed countless older county jails that have had little investment since opening their doors. In response, Henry has created a program known as the BKV Group Rural Jail Initiative which "integrates a modern correctional public safety facility with a community health clinic." In what will be known as a Health and Public Safety Center, the co-location of uses creates cost-savings and provides "higher quality care to both the general public and jail population, while becoming part of a continuum of care facilitating inmates' transition from the jail to life in the community." Read more about this much-needed full-service community health initiative in the latest spotlight of Correctional News here (article also attached): https://lnkd.in/gjgFJwrf

In the Mid-Atlantic outlet of Engineering News-Record (ENR), BKV Group and our developer partner, Post Brothers, had our mixed-use project in Philadelphia, One Thousand One, showcased in a construction innovation article. The project, when completed, will include nearly 1,500 residences, making it one of the largest residential projects underway in the United States. Even more impressive, as the article details, the project has surged ahead despite facing potential labor shortages and significant costs related to conventional concrete construction. Senior Design Leader and Development Managing Partner, Jack Boarman, spoke to ENR about how the BKV team "devised a solution that allowed it to use a cold-formed, panelized building system with cross-braced bearing walls rather than a conventional concrete structure to meet its needs. By using that system, the project is able to save potential costs by lightening the structure while reducing labor demands on site through the use of panels that are fabricated off site." Take a deep into the largest project under construction in the country to use this system here: https://lnkd.in/grfSZqhK

Last week, we had multiple BKV Group practice sites represented at the 2024 The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture & Design in Washington, D.C. Bringing together the AEC industry to network, share knowledge, gain exposure, and find multidisciplinary solutions to today’s most pressing issues, #AIA24 was an inspiring and energizing four days. Great to see Tibor Sego, Assoc. AIA, Ellie Ziaie, Andrea Vergara, and Warees Smith AIA, NOMA convene at the annual event!

This week, BKV Group was honored to have Minnesota Senator, Tina Smith, and the USDA Undersecretary, Basil Gooden, visit the BKV-designed Howard Lake Library, the Midwest's first Net Zero library. Said Senator Smith, "Libraries are the heart of many communities — providing a place for learning, gathering, and connecting. With local, state, and federal funding, Howard Lake will be able to build an expanded, more accessible library the whole community will be able to enjoy." With total completion expected this July, we are excited to share more with you come summer!
