What a difference a year can make! City Village by SummerHill Homes is taking shape within the Bishop Ranch Community #SanRamonCA #Residential
About us
Owned and developed by Sunset Development since 1978, the family-operated company is guided by the long-held vision of making Bishop Ranch a distinct Californian community. Spread across 600 acres in Northern California’s San Ramon Valley, Bishop Ranch is where community, commerce and culture collide to create a thriving, walkable downtown for the city of San Ramon and a significant job center for the region. At its core, the 10-million-square-foot, next-generation workplace is one of the country’s largest office campuses and home to 30,000 employees and a dynamic mix of more than 600 businesses, including Fortune 500 companies, local startups and everything in between. With an award-winning transit program and a deep commitment to sustainability, Bishop Ranch aims to be the largest distributed power generation site in the world with 80% of its energy produced on-site by solar. The heartbeat of Bishop Ranch is City Center, a $300 million, 300,000-square-foot, open-air shopping, dining and entertainment destination. With its range of nearly 60 distinctive retailers and notable restaurants – including The Slanted Door, LB Steak, Boba Guys and Fieldwork Brewing Company -- along with Equinox Fitness, the luxurious LOT Cinema and the inviting public square, City Center is a unique and ever-popular gathering place. From art and music events to a thriving farmers’ market, City Center is the destination for social and cultural experiences. With an unwavering commitment to build a walkable downtown, Bishop Ranch will soon introduce several distinctive residential communities, eventually numbering some 6,000 homes. Also planned is a new boutique hotel, as well as restaurant and retail options throughout the various neighborhoods.

Yesterday, we had the distinct privilege of hosting a diverse group of thought leaders at the Adapt & Evolve event. This gathering allowed us to leverage the power of collective insight to foster innovative ideas, build valuable connections, and reimagine the future of work. It was an inspiring day beautifully summarized by Shujaat. Thank you, to our panelists Brian Elliott, Hakee Chang, Juliana Schroeder, Michelle Samura, Shujaat Ahmad, Brett Hautop and our keynote speaker Annie Murphy Paul. #BishopRanch

What happens when the people and workplace teams become one team? They stop the BS of solving for siloed metrics of space use or office attendance. They solve for the real goal: employee engagement. They design for a culture that embraces diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. That then fuels the rocketship for productivity and innovation. I am sharing the key learnings that stood out for me from a great immersive event arranged by Workshape and Bishop Ranch. The event brought together thought leaders from the people and places domains. It started with teams split up in an "escape room" simulation to solve for employee experience. Annie Murphy Paul delivered the keynote on how we think outside the brain. It ended with a panel discussion that I was part of along with Michelle Samura Juliana Schroeder Brian Elliott Hakee Chang. 🏢 👣 More companies are combining people and places teams under the people function. They have realized what they need to optimize for. Forcing people into the office without intentionality and making it meaningful is not working. 🧠 ❤️ 🤸♀️ The intersection of people and places allows for designing the ideal multi-purpose space. This space lets you think beyond the brain and draw on physical, emotional, and social wisdom. This wisdom speaks when you are free from distraction. You can then escape external noise and tune into your "inner weather." It's a space to express yourself with gestures and learn from observing others. We cannot make these observations on a video call. It's a space that invites you to spend time outside. It also brings the outside in through views of nature. It's a space that invites you to engage in social activities. These include storytelling, debating, and teaching others. It's a space that makes it easy for people to form groups under shared interests - meals and hobbies. 🌏 Any in-person meeting design has to enable belonging. Belonging is different for everyone. The design reminds everyone that they belong here. The design reminds them of the organization's culture. It rejects the current state of world inequities. It nudges them to educate about differences among the world's communities. It shows what a peaceful world could look like. Thanks, Alex Mehran Jr. Andrea Reeder for providing a space perfect to live the insights in reality. Using the luxury movie theatre for the panel was extra special for a movie buff. I felt like I was at a film festival's post-screening press conference :) I look forward to seeing how my family's favorite, Bishop Ranch, furthers its vision to be a forward-thinking community hub with meaningful workspaces. Thanks Brett Sandi Allie for such an awesome experience. Thanks Omar for the B&W photos. Thoughts shared are my perspective only and that of my advisory Belong & Lead #diversityequityinclusionandbelonging #futureofwork #artificialintelligence #innovation #leadership #culture #management #humanresources #peopleanalytics #workplace
