𝑩𝒊𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝑲 The 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞 (𝐆𝐆𝐒𝐒) is a UK tariff support mechanism for operators producing biomethane from anaerobic digestion (AD) and injecting it into the gas network, as a direct substitute for natural gas. The programme is open to applications until 2028. The application process is structured in three phases. We asked James Wayman at NFU Energy, a company that offers support to operators and developers in preparing and submitting applications, to explain the process: https://bit.ly/47P9yFJ

Biocore Environmental is an Irish developer of anaerobic digestion plants, with a network of biomethane plants based mainly on agricultural waste and scrap in the planning stage. The company supports the new 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲, seeing it as a positive step for the sector. However, as James Russell - CTO at Biocore, explains, the company is concerned about some open points he mentions in the interview: https://bit.ly/47KTGE5

𝐍𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐬 aims to become a key partner for the development of 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝. The strategy? A close collaboration with the agricultural sector, promoting a business model that favors both parties. Future regulation envisages that large energy consumers use a share of biomethane, starting at 2% of gas within the first few years and increasing this to 10% by 2030. According to Flogas Enterprise bio-CNG, together with biomethane, is a promising solution for the decarbonisation of the transport sector, in particular for heavy commercial vehicles that contribute a significant part of emissions. As Eoin Brennan points out, European and Irish regulations that encourage the use of renewable gases and fuels are critical, along with industrial policies that ensure companies can decarbonise without losing competitiveness due to higher costs. https://bit.ly/4gw7TIT

METHAREN is the EU project which aims to demonstrate a more sustainable, circular, innovative and cost-effective biomethane production system. As mentioned in this video interview, to achieve this goal, a pilot plant has been identified in Turin, in Northern Italy, where biomethane is produced from the treatment of organic waste. Here, we are experiencing an increase in the production of biomethane by 150% through the recovery of CO2, hydrogen (with an electrolyser) and syngas, produced from the plant's waste. https://bit.ly/3MG7buS
