"Nonprofit developer Bickerdike Redevelopment, which owns the affordable apartment complex and City Lit’s current building, received a $620,000 grant funded by tax increment financing, the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund and Chicago Recovery Plan bonds to build out the 4,000-square-foot retail space for City Lit. The location also will have a coffee section with drinks by small-batch roaster Monday Coffee. "

We're honored to have been awarded low-income housing tax credits by Mayor Brandon Johnson & the Chicago Department of Housing for our proposed project at 5853 North Broadway. Our project will deliver 90 units of affordable family housing in a neighborhood that has not seen new affordable housing development in decades. A lot of work remains to get this project completed, but this is a critical milestone and an important step along the way. #affordablehousing #ETOD #LIHTC

“This renovation isn’t just about preserving historic apartments; it’s about ensuring they remain affordable for generations and helping residents remain in the community they call home,” Bickerdike officials said in the statement. As part of the financing and renovation, Bickerdike is expanding the income limits for its apartments so more people qualify for the housing. #affordablehousing
