Reviving degraded lands and creating thriving forests is possible through the practice of silviculture – growing and managing trees. The Coalizão Brasil Clima, Florestas e Agricultura and Bezos Earth Fund are partnering to restore ecosystems and boost the economy. This work… 🌳 Creates jobs: Helping local communities thrive. 🌳 Captures carbon: Strengthening our climate fight. 🌳 Strengthens biodiversity: Bringing native species back. The Research and Development Program for Native Species, launched by the Coalizão and partners, is driving the growth of valuable native trees, ensuring Brazil's forests are healthy and productive. Discover how growing and managing native trees is shaping a brighter future for Brazil’s green economy.

Green hydrogen is an essential component of the successful clean energy transition—capable of fueling ships, planes, and trucks, as well as powering industry and storing energy. However, to achieve 1.5°C, the global supply of clean hydrogen needs to scale roughly a thousand-fold by 2030. The Bezos Earth Fund is supporting one exciting idea to overcome a difficult chicken-and-egg problem – how to jump start these nascent markets where producers can’t invest in solutions without guaranteed offtake but the green alternatives are often cost-prohibitive for buyers. H2Global Foundation offers a model to help. They act as a market maker – stepping in as both a buyer, purchasing from first-generation hydrogen production facilities, and as a seller to customers who wish to purchase various forms of clean hydrogen. Through their innovative double auction mechanism, this overcomes the expectation mismatch of buyers and sellers–providing the certainty producers need and selling these commodities to various consumers at a lower price. In addition, H2Global works with governments (so far Germany and the Netherlands) to apply concessional funding to help cover the cost difference. Having just concluded their first auction for clean hydrogen derivatives, it is clear this mechanism is effective at driving down costs, and spurring a green hydrogen market. We are helping to scale this innovative solution beyond the EU to other countries. We expect to see further adoption of clean hydrogen and its derivatives, and a forward shift in the S-curve to accelerate market creation. #cleanhydrogen #H2Global

By incentivizing partnerships between AI experts, utilities, grid operators, and frontline organizations, we aim to unlock innovative solutions that can optimize grid operations, enhance resilience, and ensure a more equitable energy access for all. I recently spoke with the Bezos Earth Fund #AIforClimateandNature Grand Challenge team about the transformative potential of #ResponsibleAI to modernize our power grid infrastructure. I encourage all prospective Grand Challenge applicants to watch the recording to learn more about the #PowerGridOptimization focus area. How do we use animal waste to fuel a plane? How do we reduce the cost of an electric 18-wheeler? How do we transform industry to create clean shipping, green cement, and sustainable aviation fuel? These are the challenges the Bezos Earth Fund is addressing as we contribute to building infrastructure and scaling efforts for a clean economy. Through our partnership with RMI and Mission Possible Partnership, we are achieving remarkable progress in the industry. Our vision isn't about compromising transportation for sustainability—it's about innovating together to build a cleaner future that we all want to live in. "What we really would love from this Grand Challenge is not those incremental changes that will probably happen anyway in startups or in university labs or research organizations in the next couple of years. Use this opportunity to think out of the box to try riskier stuff and more transformational ideas.” I had a great conversation with the Bezos Earth Fund’s #AIforClimateandNature Grand Challenge team about sustainable proteins and the opportunities for driving real impact in this focus area. You can watch the recording and learn more about the other focus areas here: https://lnkd.in/ed97uqAT And don’t forget! World history is defined by breakthrough ideas and technological changes. A million years ago humans discovered how to control fire. Then came the wheel at 5,000 BC, followed by a whole set of discoveries and inventions, including the printing press, steel plow, personal computer, and more. Each one introduced radical change. And now we have another new technology: AI. We’re still discovering its full potential, but one thing is clear: It too will change everything. Last week, I had the pleasure of speaking at the Chautauqua Institution, where I talked about positive change and why the Bezos Earth Fund has launched a $100 million Grand Challenge on the role of AI to conserve biodiversity, enhance sustainable proteins, and modernize the power grid. From food to fashion — shipping containers carry the cargo that help us live our lives. But getting those containers off ships and away from ports is still a polluting process, with diesel-powered cranes, forklifts, and yard tractors doing the heavy lifting — and accounting for 15% of port emissions. That’s why the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB) — two of the busiest container ports in the country — are working to accelerate pilots and deployment of zero-emissions cargo handling equipment with the goal of transitioning all cargo handling equipment to zero emissions by 2030. In partnership with the Bezos Earth Fund, RMI and Mission Possible Partnership analyzed the total cost of ownership of four types of cargo handling equipment to provide stakeholders with an understanding of the technologies available today and their operational costs: https://bit.ly/461h2EC #California #Decarbonization #EmissionsReduction #PortEmissions #EnergyTransition
