As the world gathers to celebrate the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics, we are reminded of the incredible dedication, passion, and sense of purpose that drives athletes to achieve greatness. Just as these athletes strive for gold, finding a sense of purpose in our work can lead to extraordinary achievements in our professional lives. We believe that purpose is the key to unlocking our highest potential. When we align our work with our core values and passions, we not only enhance our productivity but also experience greater fulfillment and satisfaction. Just like Olympians, purpose-driven individuals are more resilient, motivated, and engaged. Here’s how you can find and cultivate your sense of purpose at work: 🥇Reflect on your values: Take time to identify what truly matters to you. Understanding your core values will help you align your work with your personal beliefs and goals. 🥇 Set meaningful goals: Like athletes in training, set clear and meaningful goals that inspire you. Make sure these goals reflect your values and contribute to your personal and professional growth. 🥇 Seek impact: Strive to make a positive impact through your work. Whether it’s helping a colleague, contributing to a project, or innovating in your field, knowing that your work makes a difference can enhance your sense of purpose. 🥇 Embrace growth: Continuously seek opportunities for learning and development. Engaging in new challenges and expanding your skills can keep your work exciting and purposeful. 🥇 Connect with others: Build strong relationships with your colleagues and community. A supportive network can provide motivation, inspiration, and a deeper sense of belonging.

We can get behind Gabriella Rosen Kellerman, MD of BetterUp’s idea on the shift we will see in a not so distant future between managers and employees: “We like our managers to coach us, to recognize us, to support our development. We don’t like having them manage our performance. So, wouldn’t it be better if we could get reporting on our progress and our performance through a neutral AI third party, work with our manager to digest it, understand it, and then make a progress plan? I think we aren’t too far away from that.”  📍 Overheard at Fortune's #BrainstormTech

Summer has a way of sparking personal reflection—moments when we ask ourselves pressing questions: "Who am I, and who do I want to be? What are my passions and purpose?" They can stem from broader questions about your life, cascading down to career-specific quandaries. 🤔 In a business context, these transitional moments—contemplating a career shift or deciding to go for a promotion—are instances when individuals benefit from reflection and coaching. 🌊 These are moments when stress management skills, resilience, and focus help to navigate change. 🤲 When organizations support people through transitions and assist them in building mindsets and behaviors to flourish amid adversity, they see business impact. 😎 Thinking about and planning our future is incredibly important to us and uniquely human, and future-minded leaders have the best chance of nurturing their people through these transitions. 📈 BetterUp research shows that future-minded leaders are 21% more resilient and productive and 33% less likely to leave the company they work for. https://lnkd.in/dNuJRQ3N

Are we done talking about burnout yet? According to a Forbes article published last week, the answer is, sadly, no. A few stats stand out: 🤯 46% of workers across the globe are looking to quit in 2024, according to a study by LinkedIn and Microsoft. In the United States, that number is even higher, with one LinkedIn study finding that 85% of U.S. employees are considering a career move. 🤯 Employee engagement is at an 11-year low, with 70% of employees surveyed saying they’re not engaged, according to Gallup. These are the people who are still quietly quitting. 🤯 About 82% of all employees are at risk of burning out this year, according to HR Consulting Firm Mercer’s 2024 Global Talent Report. 🤯 According to a new survey by SHRM, 44% of employees feel burned out at work, 45% feel “emotionally drained” from their work, and 51% feel “used up” after work. https://lnkd.in/gT--Dyxc

When leadership struggles, so do their teams. As leaders, we have an outsized impact on our direct reports, as individuals and managers. And because managers have the biggest influence on an employee’s experience, that negative impact flows downward and ripples outward. BetterUp research shows that when leaders are burnt out, there is a ripple effect on their team: 🦠 Burnout has been shown to be contagious within teams – if we don’t address it, it spreads. 👋 Then team performance suffers, and people are more likely to leave, creating additional stress and burden for those who stay. 🌀This generates a vicious cycle of burnout that further impacts effectiveness and readiness. The good news? Burnout is addressable. Here’s what to do: ⚡ Promote work-life balance ⚡ Provide support and resources ⚡ Recognize and appreciate efforts https://lnkd.in/gWdbieq6

Have you experienced imposter syndrome? Our guess is, yes. Imposter syndrome can affect even the highest performers, making them feel like "frauds" despite their successes. Recognizing and addressing this condition is crucial, as it can lead to low self-esteem, anxiety, and hinder professional growth. Our very own Laura Lomelí Russert, Ph.D. spoke to HR BarTender about this topic, describing how BetterUp defines imposter syndrome as feeling anxious and doubting one's success despite external achievements. Key signs include: ❌ Self-criticism ❌ Undervaluing contributions ❌ Attributing successes to external factors By fostering self-compassion, resilience, and authenticity, individuals can overcome imposter syndrome. 💪 Coaching plays a vital role in this journey, helping individuals stand tall and confident in their abilities. ✨ Company culture and systemic biases also contribute to imposter syndrome. Addressing these issues can create a supportive environment that minimizes stress and self-doubt. 🌱 Managers and HR leaders are in unique positions to combat imposter syndrome. By promoting inclusion and transparency, and offering mental health resources, they can foster a culture where all employees thrive. https://lnkd.in/ggzf8Jsy
