We are deeply honored to be recognized as a company within the American Heart Association Social Impact Funds. This investment highlights the American Heart Associations unwavering commitment to supporting individuals and families during their most challenging times and allows us at Betterleave to extend our reach and amplify our efforts in making a positive, lasting difference in the lives of those affected by heart disease. Losing loved ones can take a major toll not just on psychological well-being but also on physical health. A 2014 study in JAMA Internal Medicine showed that within 30 days of their partner's death, people ages 60 and older had more than twice the risk of a stroke or heart attack compared to people who hadn't suffered such a loss. That followed a 2012 study in the American Heart Association journal Circulation showing the danger of a heart attack was highest in the first 24 hours after the death of a loved one and people with existing cardiovascular problems might be at particular risk. And most recently researchers led by Mary-Frances O'Connor at the University of Arizona studied the impact of grief on heart function and found that severe grief can cause a marked rise in blood pressure. Thank you to the governance committee Alexander Almazan, Denise B., Keith Churchwell, Lee Shapiro, Marsha Jones, Nancy Brown, Neil M. Meltzer, MPH, MHA, and Regina Benjamin, MD, MBA. And a special thank you Mark McCoy, Ashlye A. Stewart, CFA, Heather Butscher and Zak Andersen at BNSF Railway. Read more from the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/e74E3W-C
