Berjé celebrated #InternAppreciationDay yesterday, recognizing the incredible contributions of our new interns! Their fresh perspectives, limitless creativity, and contagious enthusiasm bring so much energy to our team, and we are so grateful to have all of you on board! To celebrate the day, we asked our interns a bit about their experiences at Berjé, their future plans, and some fun facts about themselves. Here’s what they had to say: Samir Varma is currently attending Rutgers University as an Electrical & Computer Engineering / Physics Major at the School of Engineering Honors Academy, expecting to graduate in May 2027. He is interning in the quality control department and says the experience with teamwork has been one of the most beneficial aspects of his time at Berjé. Samir resonates most with the “Be Passionate” slogan at Berjé because “if you don’t like what you’re doing, there’s no point in doing it!” His dream vacation is visiting Shibuya in Japan and shopping at all the thrift stores. Kaylee Paucar is currently studying Environmental Studies at Hunter College, expecting to graduate in June 2025. She is interning in the sustainability department at Berjé and says the experience has given her valuable insight into sustainability from a business perspective. For Kaylee, one of the most interesting subjects to learn about is the intricacy of lime oil – the material is meticulously packed and handled, and there is a great deal of care involved at every step of the process. She resonates with the “Be Sustainable” slogan at Berjé because “embracing sustainability means ensuring safety and longevity by harmonizing with our ecosystems and valuing them, which in turn drives our industry practices to reflect these values.” One thing on Kaylee’s bucket list is kayaking in a bayou; the wetlands are rich in biodiversity and stunning landscapes. “Plus, as a fan of alligators, getting a closer look at one in its natural habitat would be an exhilarating experience I wouldn’t want to miss!” Emma Epiphaniou is a rising junior at Penn State University studying Biomedical Engineering in a concentration of biochemical engineering, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2026. She is interning at the fragrance lab at Berjé and works closely alongside the fragrance team with compounding and evaluation. She says her experience at Berjé has “taught me professionalism and provided insights into the Fragrance Industry, as well as new networking skills and valuable career advice." One of the strangest lessons Emma has learned is how fragrances uniquely interact with the body’s chemistry. She resonates with the “Be Ambitious” slogan at Berjé, as she strongly believes that “setting ambitious goals and working diligently towards them is key to achieving success.” Her dream destination is Cyprus – she is a Cypriot with several cousins that still live on the island, and she would love to see the villages where her grandparents grew up before moving to America.

Get to know our Transformational Women of 2024! Prior to 2022, if you worked for Berje Inc and were hoping for facetime with second-generation CEO Kim Bleimann or his executive team, your best bet was to stick around the office late. Sometimes until 8 p.m. That was just part of the culture at the company, a producer and supplier of essential oils and aromatic chemicals. But when Berjé’s third-generation CEO, Gillian Bleimann-Boucard, took the reins from her father two years ago, she wondered if there might be a way to continue the company’s success while striking a better, more inclusive work-life balance for her team. She set about making the workday at Berjé “flexible enough that those important things don’t have to happen after hours.” “I think my role in the family business is maintaining that family culture that my dad set up but evolving it into ways that can work now,” Bleimann-Boucard says. Since Bleimann-Boucard became CEO, female leadership at the essential oils and aromatic chemicals supplier has grown to more than 40%. Two-thirds of the company’s C-level positions are held by women. While she’s careful to note that work-life balance is an issue that impacts everyone, Bleimann-Boucard says a more flexible workday has likely helped the company diversify its executive ranks. https://ow.ly/luaN50SGeIL #familybusiness

In the past two months, chemical manufacturers in India have faced numerous challenges with the production and shipping of precursor materials due to several events including an extreme heat wave, monsoon flooding, and damage to local infrastructure. These challenges, along with continued Suez Canal disruptions, have impacted the production of many aromatic chemicals that rely on a steady stream of precursor materials.   Read the full report and its impact here: https://lnkd.in/eDwVD7K9

Container freight rates have increased by more than 30% since May 2024, with shipping costs projected to rise even further as importers prepare for the tumultuous summer season. Ship diversions from the Red Sea are a major contributing factor to this issue – the Suez Canal was once used by roughly 30% of all global shipping vessels, but frequent disruptions to maritime trade within the region have caused many vessels to avoid this route and instead travel around the Cape of Good Hope. These new routes increase both the time and the cost of shipping new material, resulting in price increases for most goods shipped via sea. To read more about ongoing freight issues and how they impact the global flavor and fragrance industry, please visit the full article on Berjé Online. https://lnkd.in/eqRfKmzw #SuezCanal #RedSeaCrisis #Flavor #Fragrance

Berjé, Texarome, and the Exaflor team had the privilege of meeting Jérôme Viaud, the mayor of Grasse, during this year’s SIMPPAR! We’d like to extend our sincerest appreciation to the work of everyone at SIMPPAR and EFEO – it was an honor to be in attendance and we look forward to continuing our support of these fantastic industry organizations.
