Located along the Woken River in Heilongjiang, China lies the Taoshan Reservoir - a vital resource for Qitaihe City. Often called the city's "Little West Lake," the reservoir plays a crucial role in flood control, supplying clean water, and supporting agriculture and aquaculture. Covering an area of over 6.5 million square meters, the Taoshan Lake project focuses on ecological, environmental, and water conservancy development. Qitaihe Jianhe Investment and Construction Management and Heilongjiang Big Data Industrial Development collaborated to create digital models from large amounts of varying project #data. The team used Bentley digital construction software to create a 4D model of the project area, linking the demolition and construction sequences. With a clear roadmap for every stage of the project, the team could optimize timing and resource allocation. The results were impressive. By using this digital approach, construction time was slashed by a staggering 40%. This translated to completing the project a full 240 days ahead of schedule. #data #digitaltwin #assetmanagement #projectmanagement #infrastucture #engineering

For a quick #flashbackFriday, we wanted to revisit one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Southeast Asia. More than just a highway: The Trans-Sumatra Toll Road will span the entire length of Sumatra Island in Indonesia. At 2,700 kilometers long, this highway will improve mobility and help transform the island's economy. Building a road across an area known for its remote and dense forests comes with unique challenges. Construction firm PT. Hutama Karya (Persero) used Bentley software and other digital solutions to survey the area along a 28km stretch of road between the city of Pematangsiantar and the town of Serbelawan. This key stretch is projected to cut travel time in half. 🎞️ https://bit.ly/39Z1A3a via The B1M #engineering #roads #visualization #realitymesh #transportation #fbf

Power grids depend on substations, yet their massive size can often be an eyesore. The Xudong substation in Wuhan, a pivotal project in China, is set to change this narrative. The plan is to relocate the facility underground and create a picturesque park on top, blending seamlessly with the surrounding greenery. Upon completion, it will cater to the power needs of the local area, lighting up the lives of 200,000 residents. This project is in a densely populated area near the Yangtze River and faces spatial constraints and geotechnical hurdles. Designing and planning for the construction of this complex and innovative project required tight collaboration across multiple disciplines. Powerchina Hubei Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. harnessed the power of digital twin technology to streamline design and construction processes, resulting in significant time and cost savings. The project team saved CNY 7.54 million in investment costs and shaved off 30 days from the construction schedule. #DigitalTwin #Infrastructure #Engineering #Energy #Substations #Construction #China

Istanbul is Europe's most populated city, with population surpassing 15 million residents. The city's population grew by 50% between 2000 to 2022. This surge has caused significant traffic problems, particularly in the historic part of the city where shopping and business centers, and a stadium, are frequently visited. Türkiye's largest city needed to efficiently expand its public transportation system to improve the traveler experience, ensuring citizens are transported from the surface to the platform in a short time, comfortably, and in a sustainable way. Metro Istanbul initiated the Seyrantepe – Alibeyköy pocket bus station metro project, which includes three stations across 6.9 kilometers and can serve 70,000 passengers per hour. Using Bentley software, project planners modeled passenger flows at the stations and optimized their design to avoid bottlenecks and prepare evacuation scenarios during emergencies. The final design will keep passengers moving through 2050 and combat overcrowding by promoting a sustainable transportation option. Beijing's northeast Chaoyang District, lacking adequate public transportation, sought to improve resident travel options. The Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning and Design partnered with others to develop new rail lines, and two subway stations, and encourage green transportation like cycling. The key was intelligent design. Before laying the first track, the project team used Bentley software to analyze and connect various travel modes, predicting demand and traffic flow. This helped determine rail line layout, station placement, and connections to shared bicycles, mini-buses, and cars. The revealed hidden travel patterns led to a 15% boost in travel efficiency. The new rail design ensures the entire area is accessible within 10 minutes. By prioritizing public transit, West Dongba breathed new life into the district. Encouraging rail lines use and providing connections to lower-carbon transportation modes to final destinations, will significantly ease the use of carbon-emitting vehicles while easing navigation through Beijing. #infrastructure #engineering #digitaltwin #smartcities #sustainability

Hall Road, a major road for transport and freight in Melbourne's southeast with 17,000 drivers daily, received a major upgrade. The Hall Road Upgrade (HRU) project improved safety and traffic flow by duplicating and widening the road and upgrading intersections. The project site is located in the middle of a flat plain that has a high flood risk. To find the best design to minimize potential #flooding, the design team used digital solutions to model and analyze various road elevations and cross-drainage culverts. The HRU was completed and opened in February 2024, nine months ahead of schedule. The new roadway design lowers the water surface elevation and will reduce flooding and the impact of climate change on flooding events in Victoria for up to 100 years. #infrastructure #construction #CarrumDowns #Australia [Images: Aerial view of a suburban area in southeast Melbourne, Australia. According to climate models, Europe is projected to encounter more frequent and severe droughts, prompting leaders to focus on water resilience. To tackle these challenges, many local leaders are turning to, and adopting the latest digital technology to fix their infrastructure, prevent water leaks, and improve water management. Here’s a look at a couple of examples: 🔵 Updating London’s Victorian-Era Sewer System: London’s 150-year-old sewer system was built to handle waste for a population of less than half of the city’s current 8 million people. Costain, VINCI, and Bachy Soletanche are working in a joint venture to design, construct, and replace the eastern section of the sewer system with a new super sewer called the Thames Tideway Tunnel project. The team used Bentley’s digital twin and other solutions to visualize the construction process. The new sewer system will mitigate waste and debris and significantly improve the water quality of the River Thames. 🔵 Around A Water Tower In Belgium: Built in 1981, a massive water tower located in Juprelle, was aging, suffering from cracks, and needed repairs to ensure continued water service. Société wallonne des eaux (SWDE) worked with Bentley to build a digital 3D model of the water tower and used AI to automate crack detection. The digital replicas helped SWDE determine how to prevent water tower degradation and accurately plan renovation work.
