Last week, the BDE San Diego team toured our 1st and Maple project (aka ‘Treehouse’) which recently broke ground. Located in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood of San Diego, this project is an 8-story III-A / I-A building consisting of 107 dwelling units. The building’s amenity package will include a spa, a co-working lounge, a fitness center, and a roof deck which is sure to get used during the beautiful San Diego days and evenings! Outfitted with PPE equipment and smiles all-around, the team enjoyed their site-walk in the warm Southern California sun.

The BDE team visited our recently completed 450 First Street project last week, touring the 1, 2, 3-bedroom and penthouse condominium units, as well as the project’s beautiful outdoor roof terrace. Located in the heart of Los Altos, the privately funded 4-story Type IIIA over 2-story Type IA building was completed last week. Seeing this project come to life has been such a wonderful experience!

Thank you SFYIMBY for highlighting a BDE project. Located at 875 Sansome, BDE Architecture submitted two proposals for the site: an 8-story low-rise proposal and a 14-story mid-rise proposal. "The separate applications use the Senate Density Bonus program created by Senate Bill 35. SB35 was introduced in 2017 to encourage developers to designate a certain percentage of affordable units. Thank you to SF YIMBY for featuring two of BDE's towers! "Illustrations [of 598 Bryant] show a dynamic exterior with an undulating curtain-wall skin framed by narrow white features rising to various heights up the facade [...]. The result is a creative balance between hierarchy and organic patterns across the rectangular tower’s surface." Across the I-80, 650 Harrison comes into view. "The 366-foot tall structure will yield [...] 194,700 square feet for housing [...]. Of the 274 rental apartments, 42 will be designated as affordable, including for very low-income and moderate-income households." Read more at sfyimby .com

BDE Architecture awarded Nha-Tran Tran with its Personal Life Enrichment Scholarship. In Spring of 2023, Tran traveled to Vietnam. In her own words: "After 15 years, I visited Vietnam… and things that I overlooked in architecture, history, and in ways of life in Vietnam have become vibrant to me again. I was able to analyze buildings and urbanism in Vietnam with the architectural knowledge that I've learned in the U.S. The trip was significant for me, to understand how the East meets West, the past meets present, and the young version of me meets the grown-up me. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to travel that BDE Personal Enrichment Scholarship had granted. "BDE Architecture awarded Alex M. with a Personal Life Enrichment Scholarship. Spring 2023, Alex traveled to Uganda and spent 2 weeks in the Mbale District to work on the construction of the future Africa School for the Arts. In his own words, "I am very proud to say we finished the foundation preparations for the first two classrooms, topped off a 50,000-liter cistern, connected sewage lines to the site's bio-digester, and completed the construction of 11 trusses. Only 20% of Ugandan children attend secondary school due to a lack of facilities and personnel. If you are able, please consider donating : https://gofund.me/3d7f2cf8
