This year, we gathered once again at the iconic Hotel Chelsea in New York, bringing together 100 collective members, founders, and investors to reflect on our progress and set the stage for what’s next. Some of the highlights from 2024 revealed at this year’s conference include: 🔷 $29M invested as of September 2024 🔷 19 companies now in the Baukunst portfolio 🔷 2 new companies launched by collective members 🔷 2 Study Groups completed and published, exploring the future of mushrooms and AI’s role in CAD 🔷 A new home for the collective in Bernal Heights, San Francisco 🔷 And many exciting developments for 2025 still under wraps—stay tuned The morning kicked off with presentations from founders, who shared their experiences with launch, refining their brands, and the lessons learned over the past year of building. In the afternoon, collective members delivered dynamic five-minute talks on topics of their choice—from how card counting relates to business strategy to provocations around how utilizing AI could help you become a better manager and human. We're excited to share some of these valuable insights with our broader community soon. Over the course of two days, new connections were made, ideas were exchanged, and our collective’s growth was celebrated. These conferences are a special time for us, and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who joined us to reflect and strategize for the future. Thank you to all who attended—the energy at this event is always palpable, and fuels the momentum of what we're building together. We’re looking forward to seeing the progress we’ll make over the next year, and reflecting on it all when we reconvene in 2025.

Thank you, Andrew, for your insights on media and magic at last week's Creative Technologist conference. Stay tuned for more on the topic ✨

I don’t explain, I explore. | Director of The McLuhan Institute | International Speaker | Media Consultant for Fortune 500 Companies

What do magic and media have in common? (TLDR: much.) Arthur C Clarke famously suggested in a 1972 footnote, which became known as Clarke’s third law (the other two are pretty good also), that when technology works, it works like magic. Marshall McLuhan insisted that media work us over and alter us so thoroughly because they operate largely beneath our awareness. As if by magic. (Critically, he also insists that this unawareness is optional on our part, and spent his career showing us how to choose differently. Much of my work is helping others become aware.) The magician waves their hands and spins their story, and your card appears, folded and tucked under your watch. Magic! Likewise, new technology appears and we become enamoured with its affordances and sometime later we wonder what happened to who we were: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from identity theft.” Sleight of hand versus sleight of mind. We arrive at the magic show as surely as we line up at the Apple store, eager for entertainment. My ‘call to action’ is a call to awareness. As entertaining as it is, the similarities end when at the end of the magic show we have had a good time but are the same person. The same is not true with our technologies, which by their nature, fundamentally change our identities and our very being. A new technology means a new person and a new culture, with no regard for the values of the existing person or culture. I wonder: at what point we will tire of fooling ourselves that the entertainment is worth the price of admission? *consensed from my lightning show and tell at last week’s Baukunst Creative Technologists conference at the Hotel Chelsea, NYC*

    Founder & CEO @ Rescale

We’ve known the team at Baukunst for over 4 years, and we’ve admired the industry changing F&B companies their GPs have invested in like Bobbie, Wildgrain, and Maev.  We’re so proud to be in the orbit of this group, officially, with the closure of our pre-seed funding round. If you’re a founder in food & bev tech enablement going through funding, please get in touch! We met dozens of incredible people along the way and I’d be happy to share intros. Thank you Elaine Watson for taking the time to write up our story!

Exciting news today: we're proud to announce our $2M investment as lead in the pre-seed round for Rescale Supply. A huge congratulations to founders Julia Megson and Matthew K. for bringing their bold vision to life, reshaping how CPG brands navigate the complexities of sourcing and managing manufacturing partnerships. As Megson noted in today's AgFunder announcement, "Food and beverage manufacturing is really offline, so brands large and small still rely on trade shows and networking.” Rescale is stepping in to change that, offering a much-needed online platform that helps CPG brands simplify everything from manufacture matching, to contracting and management. Rescale is set to transform how brands scale production—and we couldn't be more excited to support their journey as they continue building.
