Lena was hired to the Patient Accounts department in 2018 and quickly grew in her role to serve as financial counselor for patients for several years. In 2023, she accepted a position in the Human Resources department as Coordinator, where she is responsible for many tasks related to employee benefits, events, orientation, and more, as well as coordinating and overseeing the needs of our Auxiliary Volunteers. Lena was nominated for this honor by another employee, who said, “Although she has a lot on her plate, she always does her best to work through it all. She goes out of her way for everybody and anybody. Cheerful, she takes on tasks with a smile and full attention. She is friendly with every department. • Terri Lewis, LPN was one of several employees helping with our entry to Saturday's parade in Adrian. We love the chance to thank everyone in our communities for trusting us with your care. For the Adrian Optimist Salute to Freedom Parade, our team used the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) SUV, funded through a grant in 2023, to represent our hospital, our rural health clinics (like Adrian Family Care Clinic) and our Ambulance department. The Ambulance SUV was purchased with the SFY 2023 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFR) Emergency Medical Service Providers Grant for $20,000. Thanks to our employees who volunteered their time for this event! • Ovarian cancer can be sneaky. Unfortunately, it is rarely found or diagnosed until Stage 3. Debbie Powell, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in October 2023, says her earliest symptoms made her think something was wrong with her gall bladder. She shared her story with us soon after her final treatment for chemotherapy at BCMH, and had just received the news of a good scan and encouraging numbers from her oncology team, which included Dr. Jaswinder Singh in BCMH Oncology Services, in collaboration with her cancer care providers at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center. Debbie said, "From the day I was told you have ovarian cancer - and it's serious - I have been filled with a strange calmness, and I've never felt like this was the end, I've never felt like you're not going to make it, not one time have I had that thought since that day in October when I found out I had it. I want that to be what other people feel, I want them to know, don't give up. It will be okay, and you can do it. Not only that, you can very likely do it right here where you can establish a broad circle of friends, and it's going to be better for you." Our thanks to Debbie for sharing her story, and to Debbie's Adrian Christian Church family and her Bates County Circuit Court coworkers who also appear in the video. Scenes from Adrian Christian Church were staged for this video and we appreciate their participation. #ovariancancer #ovariancancersypmtoms #ovariancancerdetection #chemotherapy #cancersurvivor ASLC-31331189-9D59AE0E11

  • Bates County Memorial Hospital (BCMH) recognizes Aerial Myrtle as the Employee of the Month for June. Aerial is a Patient Accounts Specialist in the Patient Accounts Department. Aerial was hired as a Patient Accounts Representative in June 2016, and she now serves as the team lead. In her role she oversees the daily operations within the Patient Accounts department, working closely with the Patient Accounts Director to provide leadership and serving as the first in line for staff questions. “She is a valuable member of the BCMH team and helps behind the scenes in a manner that never expects recognition for the important work that she does here,” her nominator wrote. “Aerial demonstrates excellence in customer service to all customers including her peers in her department, coworkers and managers throughout the BCMH organization, volunteers at BCMH, vendors providing services to her department, and visitors in the hospital. It’s not unusual to see her manager or an executive including her in discussions about process improvements because her input is valuable and well thought out. Her demeanor is kind, patient and encouraging. She shows respect and courtesy to everyone she encounters and is supportive as others learn things she is responsible for teaching. She leads by quiet example and integrity when it comes to responding professionally in difficult situations. She’s one of the reasons people like their jobs and think BCMH is a great place to work.” Aerial is an excellent employee, and she deserves this recognition.
