Happy Birthday to Pablo Picasso, born on this day in 1881! 🥳 Can you spot Picasso in this artwork? Picasso celebrated his 19th birthday in Paris in 1900—this painting was likely made in the months following this trip (which was his first trip to Paris). As an outsider in France, he embedded himself in a community of Catalan artists, intellectuals, and activists residing in Montmartre—a location indicated by the windmill in the upper-right corner of this panel. This bleak winter scene depicts the artist with five compatriots from his 1900 stay in the capital. The artist's best friend, Carles Casagemas, stares directly at the viewer, but where is Picasso? Plan your visit to find him in-person ➡ https://bit.ly/4dxlugw 🎨 Pablo Picasso. Group of Catalans in Montmartre: Pichot, Mañach, Casagemas, Brossa, Picasso, and Gener, 1900, Oil on panel.
