Baltimore Development Corporation’s 2023 Annual Report is out! This year, we supported 326 businesses, creating and retaining 3,800 jobs, with over 44.5% BIPOC-owned and 44% owned by women, driving $1.4 billion in private investment. Key achievements include the continued success of the Baltimore BASE Network, which provided $2.8 million in essential aid to over 230 predominantly BIPOC and women-owned small businesses. The Baltimore Together Summit also stood out, bringing together 1,500 participants from various sectors, underscoring our collaborative approach. Additionally, BDC played a pivotal role in projects like CFG Bank Arena, Home Chef’s East Coast facility, Lexington Market, and Harborplace's reimagining, contributing to Baltimore achieving the second-highest GDP growth in Maryland for 2023. 🌿 The BDC team had an amazing experience visiting the National Aquarium's Harbor Wetland installation, presented by CFG Bank! 🌊 This exciting new exhibit, which is officially open to the public tomorrow, is a free, outdoor experience located between Piers 3 and 4 on Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Covering 10,000 square feet and featuring 39,625 grasses and shrubs, this exhibit looks back to Baltimore's history as a tidal salt marsh. By mimicking this natural habitat, the Harbor Wetland helps to filter water, support native wildlife like blue crabs, American eels, and night herons, and provides valuable education about wetland ecosystems. Don't miss out on this chance to explore and learn about the vital role wetlands play in our environment! 🌾

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 Last month, two of our Economic Development Specialists, David and Shevon joined NorthPoint Development to celebrate the grand opening of the new Harbor Logistics Center in the Curtis Bay community. This new facility, creating between 80-100 new jobs, is set to become a pivotal hub for leading companies such as Amazon, MAPC, One Source America, Inc., Lowe’s, Apollo, Home Chef, and Kroger. The ribbon-cutting ceremony unveiled 830,709 square feet of state-of-the-art industrial space across four class-A warehouses, representing a $124 million capital investment. BDC proudly supported NorthPoint to bring Harbor Logistics Center with Enterprise Zone tax credits and permit assistance to fruition, marking a significant achievement for our city’s economic growth and community development. ICYMI: Baltimore Development Corporation is proudly supporting Cenergy Holdings and Hellenic Cables in establishing a $38 million cable manufacturing facility in Baltimore, expected to create around 320 new jobs! The cables will be used to transfer electricity from off shore wind farms. Gov. Wes Moore highlighted, “This significant investment by Cenergy Holdings and Hellenic Cables demonstrates our state’s ability to attract innovative companies committed to a sustainable future.” I echoed this enthusiasm:"Hellenic Cable’s decision to select Wagner’s Point as the location of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is a testament to our thriving business environment and our commitment to encouraging innovative companies to continue to choose Baltimore City,” said Baltimore Development Corporation President and CEO Colin Tarbert. “BDC is proud to play a pivotal role, serving as a one-stop shop for Hellenic during the site selection process, and will continue to provide informed guidance as the project moves forward." We are thrilled to support this project, which will not only drive economic growth but also advance Maryland's leadership in renewable energy. This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of fostering a greener and more equitable future for our community. The facility will generate approximately 200 jobs during construction and 120 permanent manufacturing positions by 2026.
