About us

Baldor is one of the largest importers and distributors of fresh produce and specialty foods in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. We buy directly from domestic farmers and international growers and provide customers with a consistent supply of fresh foods, prepared however they need it. We supply a full range of foodservice clientele from white tablecloth restaurants, hotels, corporate feeders, upscale food markets, hospitals, school cafeterias, country clubs, in-flight caterers and everything in between. Baldor is now headed by Kevin's son, T.J. Murphy, C.E.O. and Michael Muzyk, President. We continue to grow and spread our mission of quality you can trust, and service that delivers. In April, 2006 Baldor Boston opened in Chelsea, Massachusetts. In April, 2012 we raised our flag in Washington D.C. across from the Jessup, Maryland produce market. Our large geographical reach makes us a reliable supporter in each local community we service by buying directly from local farms. Whether you are as far north as Portland, Maine, far west as Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, or as far south as Manassas, Virginia, Baldor can fulfill your everyday specialty food needs.

  • We couldn’t have asked for a better emcee than Margaret Magnarelli for the opening of our new 100k sq ft DMV-area warehouse in Lanham, MD. It was a pleasure having our customers, vendors, employees, and neighbors join us to celebrate this milestone. Huge thanks to everyone who worked so hard to bring this facility to life!

I was honored to have the opportunity to emcee the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of our new Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc. 100k sq ft DMV-area warehouse in Lanham, MD yesterday. (Can you spot me in this photo? I’m so on brand that I’m camouflaged! 😂) It was a pleasure to bring together our customers, our new neighbors, our vendors, and our employees for tours and tasty bites. And congratulations to my colleagues who put their hearts into the work required to get a warehouse set up, especially Dominic Vasold, Bill Hodge, Andrew Howell, Krenar Jusufi, and Eanca Canameti. Side note: As we worked to get the facility ready, my team was tasked with bringing some brand flair to the space, which gave us a new canvas to work on: warehouse walls! The great thing about Marketing is that there is always something fresh to learn. And fortunately, in this job, something fresh to eat besides…

Yesterday, we were excited to unveil our new 100,000-square-foot warehouse in Lanham, MD! With a presence in the area since 2012, we today serve more than 1,000 customers across DMV, and this major expansion will allow us to serve even more. Special thanks to State Senator Alonzo Washington, State Delegate Ashanti Martinez, Jolene Ivey from the Prince George’s City Council, Courtney Edmonds from the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce, Captain W. Faris and Baldor leadership for making the start of this new chapter for Baldor so memorable. We’re also excited to welcome 65 new team members as part of this growth. “Our commitment at Baldor is to our customers, our vendor partners and our employees—everything we do needs to be a win for all three,” says TJ Murphy, CEO and owner, Baldor Specialty Foods. “As our business has rapidly expanded in the Washington, D.C. area, we knew we needed a facility that could match the pace of our growth and support our commitment to getting our customers the best products as efficiently as possible. At the same time, we wanted to maximize product sales for our vendors, and bring on more local farmers and producers, while also increasing career and salary opportunities for our employees. With this move, we believe we have hit the trifecta.” #BaldorDC #RibbonCutting #WarehouseExpansion

  • In celebration of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we're spotlighting "The Samurai," Marcos Castillo. With 20 years and 7 months of driving under his belt, Marcos has proven himself a master of the road, known for his precision, reliability, and commitment to excellence. When he's not ensuring our deliveries are on point, he’s serving the community as an Auxiliary Police Officer, showing the same dedication to public safety. Thank you, Marcos, from the entire Baldor team!   Whether it's a crack-of-dawn start or a late-night haul, our drivers go the extra mile to get every delivery to your kitchen on time. Their unwavering effort keeps the wheels turning at Baldor, and we couldn’t do it without them! Hats off to all our drivers for their incredible dedication and hard work. #NationalTruckDriverAppreciationWeek #TeamBaldor #MeetTheTeam

You may ask: You’ve been at Baldor a long time—what keeps it fresh? Baldor marries what I’ve always loved about start ups—high growth, a high sense of urgency, and limited bureaucracy—with the prestige of a well-respected, stable brand that is consistently growing. My role has changed six times in 11 years. I continue to be jazzed every day when I get up. I get to connect the best chefs in the world to the best farms and producers and get to see the results at the best restaurants. I mean, where else can you do that? Check out more about our ELT team in The Big Cheeses story below.

  • Magazine launch? Check. Team happy hour? Double check! We know how to crush deadlines and toast to our wins. Big thanks to Cheryl Brown, our content manager and Tooker Alley partner, for giving us a fantastic spot to come together! #TeamBaldor

How about this tactic for bringing more voice of customer to your marketing: Hire a customer! Cheryl Brown is our content manager at Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc. but she sidelines as a partner in a bar in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. (Or is it the other way around?!) Tooker Alley, credited by New York Magazine for its “highly stylized tipples” crafted by former Pegu Club alum Del Pedro, has been ordering from Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc. since the bar opened 12 years ago. (Thank you, Cheryl & Del!) The experience Cheryl brings from the “other side” makes her extra empathetic to our customers’ needs—especially sizes of lemons and limes! And bonus for us because we have an awesome go-to for marketing get togethers.
