"𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. And at a time when organizations are more porous than ever, so many things have to happen smoothly for any organization to succeed. It all starts with communication and alignment. Communicators own making it happen." 👆 Too many smart moments from Mixing Board's conference to list, but this quote from Sean Garrett is sticking with us.

Last week, Mixing Board held its third-annual summit called MB (LIVE) in Austin. 150 of the most thoughtful minds in comms and brand discussed the evolution of communication, debated the impact of AI, heard about hiring trends, learned about being cyborgs, shared personal stories as leaders, workshopped real world opportunities together, and enjoyed the performance of a beautiful song. But the real magic of the event came from the ample moments personal connection that allowed old colleagues to catch up and for new friends to be made. We've reshared many posts from members in this feed that provide color on the true value of the gathering. Here are some of our favorite images from MB (LIVE). None of this would have been possible without the support of our sponsors. Thank you Day One Agency, Axios HQ, Milltown Partners, Scale, LaunchSquad, Daly, & KC Partners!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗖𝗢 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰  — and the way you succeed is by understanding how to drive and explain real business impact. Some of Gina Sheibley's advice for strategic planning: ▶️ 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺. “Think about the business context. What do we need to do next year? How do we need to change? Where do we need to focus?” That will help ensure the things that “pop up” don't put your goal at risk. ▶️ 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. “There are some things comms may not play a role in, but we're building awareness. It's important we have context as we plan and an ROI mindset. What can we deliver to the business?” ▶️ 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀. “If there is a byline, can that also be a piece of paid or earned or owned content? And then can we use it globally? Can we tweak it by industry?” ▶️ 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿. “If we have a big initiative and we drive share of voice” — something stakeholders might not get — “how does that help with organic traffic” — something they do get? ▶️ 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻 𝟴𝟬-𝟮𝟬 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲. Socialize your plan. It shouldn’t be a surprise to stakeholders. But build in flexibility. “I tell my team 80% of what we do should be on the plan, and 20% should be in response to something happening within the business.” Hear all her advice at the link in the first comment below

🔥 Comms can build a bottom line — if leadership doesn't get in the way 🔥 There is so much research — from Axios HQ and also smart leaders like Monique Zytnik from IABC EMENA — to show the value that great internal communication can have on a business: ☝ Higher employee engagement 👇 Lower team turnover rates 🚴♂️ Faster, more successful projects Monique's take on what stands in the way: "Leadership is a part of the problem, but not the whole problem. 🔥 Hot Take: Is great communication more important than a great product? 🔥 I posed this tough question in a recent WordBirds Podcast episode: "Without strategic brand communication, most products will fail." Rachel Adam offered an honest and nuanced take. Sure, we all want to believe a great product can sell itself through word of mouth. But in reality, poor communication can sink even the best products, while great communication can prop up mediocre ones… for a while. In today’s crowded market, it’s not just about what you sell, but how you communicate it. 🎙 Full episode: https://lnkd.in/ee5u_Kak Agree or disagree? 🤔 Drop your thoughts in the comments. #branding #communications #marketing #wordbirds #brandstrategy #spicytakes

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, we’re hearing a lot of questions from execs and communication leaders… ▶️ How do you decide when to speak and what to speak on? ▶️ If we do discuss an issue, what's the best forum and format? ▶️ What types of messages are other orgs sending about election day? ▶️ What kinds of resources should we offer, if any, to our teams? We worked with Speechwriters of Color to compile a simple, but thoughtful playbook of advice to help. Link in the first comment below.
