Aware is a leading global provider of biometrics software products, services, and solutions. Our modular software products include SDKs and subsystems that enable fingerprint, face, and iris recognition and mobile authentication solutions: SDKs, controls and applets; user interface applications for biometric enrollment and forensic analysis; SDKs for fingerprint, face, and iris recognition and authentication; a name matching and identity resolution SDK; a biometric services platform; and an automated biometric identification system (ABIS). These products fulfill critical biometric functionality for applications including border management, law enforcement, defense, intelligence, citizen ID, banking, and payments. Aware is a publicly held company (NASDAQ: AWRE) based in Burlington, Massachusetts. Aware has provided COTS biometrics software products since 1993, when it helped the FBI to design and optimize the “WSQ” fingerprint image compression algorithm for the first large-scale fingerprint digitization effort. Shortly thereafter, Aware was the first to commercialize WSQ as a COTS SDK product. Over the following twenty-plus years, Aware has consistently employed a “true COTS” product model, introducing a diverse array of OEM software products used to quickly and easily integrate advanced biometric functionality into systems for a variety of applications. As our product portfolio has broadened, so has our ability to assemble our COTS products into complete end-to-end software solutions, configured for the particular requirements of the customer. Aware software has been used in hundreds of deployments and is in daily operation on many thousands of workstations, servers, and mobile devices globally. TRUE or FALSE? Biometric authentication always requires special hardware, so it cannot be done on standard smartphones. SPOILERS below... -- The answer is: False! Most standard smartphones today come equipped with the hardware needed for biometric authentication, especially when it comes to authentication methods using face and voice. Many smartphones can use their front-facing cameras for facial recognition, with no infrared sensors or depth-mapping technology needed. Even without this special hardware, many app developers have leveraged software to improve the accuracy and security of camera and microphone-based biometrics. For example, Aware's offerings include robust liveness detection to prove a captured image is an actual real person in front of the camera and not just a photo, realistic mask, or digital representation. Plus, voice recognition can be performed using the standard microphone on a smartphone. In this setup, the phone captures the unique characteristics of a user’s voice—such as pitch, accent, and speech patterns—and compares them against the stored voice data. #Biometrics #FaceRecognition #Authentication #Security #Mobile

Unfortunately, deepfakes can mean bad news for businesses and their customers. It’s important for both individuals and organizations to be aware of these risks and take steps to protect themselves, for example, by using strong authentication methods (like biometrics) and being cautious of manipulated media. For consumers, this means choosing providers and solutions that consider these generative AI threats and offer robust protection against them. For business leaders, it’s essential to consider these concerns and take the necessary actions to protect customers and the business. One such action includes the integration of biometric authentication technology into existing solutions and offerings... Have you seen our NEW Consumer Trust Report findings yet? Here's a great summary from ID Tech... "The Biometrics Business Guide 2024: Consumer Trust Report indicates that biometric authentication has become a mainstream method of identity verification, with over 75 percent of Americans having engaged with it in some form, and 80 percent of users across Western Europe, Asia, and North America enabling biometric features on their smartphones. The widespread usage highlights the growing reliance on biometrics for its convenience and security advantages. "In fact, over half of the survey respondents stated they use biometric technology regularly on their devices, particularly on smartphones, with nearly 50 percent using it often or always to access mobile applications. Consumer motivation for using biometrics centers on security and convenience, as the technology eliminates the need to remember passwords and offers quick access to apps and accounts. "However, the report notes that despite the positive reception to biometric features, significant concerns remain around data security. Nearly 41 percent of respondents reported that they have little to no trust in companies’ ability to handle their biometric data responsibly, expressing fears related to data breaches, surveillance, and personal information misuse. When asked about comfort with biometric technology in public spaces, such as airports, responses were mixed; over 50 percent of consumers felt comfortable using biometrics in these settings, while more than 40 percent were neutral or uncomfortable, revealing a potential hesitation to adopt biometrics in less familiar contexts..."
