The Higher Education community is Unique vertical. There are so many different aspect to work with. Capital Projects, Facilities, Tech managers. These groups can be the audio visual integrators customer but these groups have their own customers. The above 3 can be each others customer, or can be the faculty, or the students, or the parents. All of these become customers. As the outsider, the non higher ed employee, it is hard to process all of the #higheredcustomers. I have worked closely with the #HigherEd Tech managers over the last few years. I too, have asked the question around in-house integration. As James King, BC Hatchett and Craig Underwood, CTS explained in this article, was the answers I also got. Former teacher in me asked a follow up question: Who Does the In-house work? This is where the answers started to differ. Some Universities hire employees. These employees are part of the "Tech Team". These teams can handle installing the #standards for the classroom. Whatever these standards may be.(I use these just as a basis. Some do way more) But... Some univiersites hire student workers to be in-house integration. Again, former teacher, Follow up question: What are these workers doing? Are they loading code and making minor changes? To my surprise, these universities are #training and #teaching students workers to Pull Cable Mount Displays Wire Management in Racks and Yes.. Some programming. These are just some of the things I heard. As most of us in the #AVIndustry know, there is not Bachelors Degree...(yet). The industry is in need of youth. We need people to want to install and people that have a basic understanding. The In-house integration is not taking away from #reseller and #integrator work. In-house integration is giving the AV Industry knowledgable youth. And Youth that hopefully decides to make a career out of working in this crazy, wonderful, unique industry.
