🥎 🏈 ⚾ Kids in sports can learn so many life lessons and healthy habits that can carry them into adulthood. To sum it all up, Miriam Ramirez may have said it best: “Sports have positively impacted not only our kids, but our family as well. We have met amazing coaches and fellow sports families who are now lifelong friends and love/care for my kids as their own. Without knowing it, kids are realizing the importance of community. Being part of a team challenges kids to consistently think of others and how their actions and words can affect the outcome of a situation and reaction in others, good or bad. For many, this is a child’s first exposure to having ‘a job’ or responsibility. My son, at times, is put in a role to be a defensive player and is aware that when he doesn’t do his job, his friends can get hurt. Every win or loss is a learning opportunity and prepares my kids for life as an adult, which we all know is not always easy. While being a parent to kids who are involved in multiple sports or are on a travel team can, at times, be a lot, it’s been so rewarding to see kids grow into independent natural leaders, learning from their mistakes and motivating themselves and others to keep going and give their best in everything they do.” ❤️ #NationalYouthSportsWeek #WholeHealth

🥋 Having positive role models helps create healthy habits. For Kristyl Thompson, mom and Chief Compliance Officer at Avēsis, sports have played a crucial role in shaping her boys. 🤝 They’ve come to understand the value of respecting others, effective communication, building friendships, and the importance of working hard to continuously improve. 🏆 They’ve learned how to navigate feelings of winning and losing. 🌟 And they’ve seen how their family and the families of their teammates all come together to build a community of support. 💖 When kids grow up with these examples, they’re inspired to care for themselves because they understand their worth. And when they know how to care for themselves, they’re equipped to make decisions that positively impact their health. #NationalYouthSportsWeek #WholeHealth

When kids’ physical health is taken care of, they can put their time and energy towards excelling in school and in sports. 🏅 Angela McBride, track and field mom and Credentialing Specialist II, Provider Credentialing at Avēsis, emphasizes the importance of student athletes getting a physical every year (or whatever cadence is mandated by the school’s athletic department) and following the coach’s instructions on properly warming up before each practice and game. And, of course, it all starts with proper nourishment and oral care. Keeping kids’ bodies optimal means maintaining good oral hygiene and making healthy food choices, which are both essential for student athletes to perform their best, mentally and physically. #NationalYouthSportsWeek #SportsSafety #WholeHealth

🦷 Caring for kids’ oral health is more than just brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits. It touches other aspects of their lives, including their activities like sports. ⚾ Jaw guards, helmets, face shields, and other protective gear are vital to oral health. These safety measures not only help prevent injuries now but also reduce the risk of future complications. Brian Jones, Chief Growth Officer at Avēsis, encourages those of us with kids in our lives to think about how we can prioritize safety while cheering them on to victory. 🥇 Interested in learning more about the connection between sports and health?
