It gives us great joy to announce this year's Art on the Avenue Honoree, MICHAEL HEALEY! Michael Healey is a local Northside resident and artist. He has worked as high school art educator for over 20 years and for the last several years has coordinated Art on the Avenue's Student Exhibition, giving students the opportunity to be a part of Houston's vibrant arts scene. He holds a a BFA in studio art from the University of Texas, Austin. This year at Art on the Avenue, we honor Michael Healey with our inaugural North Star Award for his vision, leadership, and commitment to making Houston's Northside a more vibrant, inclusive, and beautiful place to live. His efforts serve as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the power of community spirit and the transformative impact of the arts. Avenue's North Start Award is proudly presented to an exemplary resident who has shown unwavering dedication to enhancing the vibrancy and quality of life in our beloved neighborhood. This distinguished recognition celebrates an individual whose tireless efforts have not only improved the local environment but have also profoundly supported and nurtured the arts within our community.

Announcing the 2024 Art on the Avenue Guest Juror, BRIAN ELLISON! Brian Ellison, a conceptual artist based in Houston, Texas, holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Houston (May 2023). Renowned for his artistic contributions and as the founder and CEO of The Black Man Project, Ellison uses art to address cultural misconceptions and spark critical societal dialogues. His multi-disciplinary approach, including performance art, explores themes such as gentrification, the impact on Black communities, and the celebration of Black love and resilience. Through The Black Man Project, Ellison demonstrates his commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, using art to foster healing and provoke important conversations. Brian is also Education Project Manager of Project Row Houses and was recently included in Houston CityBook's "Cool 100"
