Today is World Drowning Prevention Day. Approximately 91% of deaths in children with Autism under 14 are caused by accidental drownings subsequent to wandering. Through the OJP Bureau of Justice Assistance's Kevin & Avonte grant, the Autism Society is leading a national effort to prevent water and wandering-related deaths in collaboration with International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Arc's National Center on Criminal Justice and Disability® (NCCJD®).
