At AVES, we proudly host quarterly Continuing Education dinners for our referring veterinary partners to strengthen our connections and give back to the community that supports us and all of Austin's pets. In our latest session, Dr. John Whittaker presented on anesthesia, while Dr. Tanner Slead discussed interventional endoscopy and radiology. We extend our gratitude to Salt Traders for their hospitality and to VetsChoice Radiology for sponsoring the event. Together, we continue to elevate veterinary care in our community!

We’re proud to share that Dr. Lindsay Vaughn, AVES Medical Director, Founding Partner, and Boarded Criticalist, recently visited a neighboring clinic: South Park Animal Hospital to present a lecture on Anesthesia Monitoring. At AVES, we are dedicated to advancing veterinary medicine and enhancing patient care. This lecture provided a wonderful opportunity to foster connections and collaborate with fellow professionals in the veterinary field. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Our new Board-Certified Anesthesiologist, Dr. John Whittaker, recently performed an ultrasound-guided sciatic nerve block for one of our patients! This advanced pain management technique is just one of the many new services that AVES now offers. Using an ultrasound machine, Dr. Whittaker is able to visualize the sciatic nerve and inject bupivacaine directly into it. The sciatic nerve block is effective in managing pain both during and after surgery.

October 10th is World Mental Health Day, raising public awareness of mental health issues around the globe through education and advocacy. Far from being all puppies and kittens, veterinarians face long hours, staffing shortages, financial pressures, and other challenges associated with providing medical care to so many pets in need, all of which take a mental toll. Let's remember to show kindness and patience towards your veterinarian and hospital staff the next time you visit. ♥ If you need to talk to someone, please seek support at Not One More Vet: https://lnkd.in/eh5RUPzZ #WorldMentalHealthDay

Last month, we celebrated Pride Month with vibrant decorations and a heartfelt commitment to inclusivity! At AVES, we believe that love and acceptance make the world a better place for all, including our furry friends. Throughout June, as we adorned our hospital with the colors of the rainbow, we proudly stood with the LGBTQ community, reaffirming our dedication to providing a safe, welcoming space for everyone. Inclusivity is fundamental to who we are. We cherish the diversity of our clients, staff, and the pets we care for. Let's celebrate love in all its forms and continue to foster a compassionate, inclusive environment together. Happy #Pride! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 #Inclusivity #LoveIsLove #VetLove

Highlighting a Recent Internal Medicine Case with Dr. Slead Teeter, a young Labrador, was referred to Dr. Slead, AVES Internist, for chronic urinary incontinence. Given her age, it was suspected that this condition was congenital, leading to the recommendation of a cystoscopy to evaluate her urinary tract. The diagnosis revealed that Teeter had an ectopic ureter, the most common congenital cause of incontinence in dogs. In this condition, the ureter (the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder) forms incorrectly, bypassing the urethral sphincter by tunneling through the bladder and urethra walls. Using a laser under cystoscopic guidance, Dr. Slead and the exceptional Internal Medicine Team at Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty (AVES) successfully removed the redundant tissue, repositioning the ureter’s opening back into the bladder and behind the urethral sphincter. This procedure often results in complete continence, and we are optimistic for a positive outcome for Teeter!

At AVES, we're committed to learning and development, not just for ourselves, but for our entire community. Our Doctors and Educators often go into general practices to provide educational presentations for their team members. By fostering an open and collaborative relationship, we are raising the standard of care for all pets in our community. Here, Milla, one of our Educators, is providing information on Triage & CPR. #AlwaysLearning #VeterinaryHealth #VetMedLife
