Transforming Transit Together

About us

The Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) was created in 2020 as the independent entity responsible for the overall implementation of Light Rail in Austin. ATP’s mission is to deliver on the voters' transit vision in partnership with the community — and in a way that embeds equity, sustainability, and transparency as overarching priorities. ATP is driven by data, which includes community input, and is committed to meeting voters’ goals and honoring Austin’s values.

Updates

  • ATP welcomes 2024’s high school summer interns. Now in its fourth year, the internship program offers students a peak into how they might apply their interest in STEM to the transit industry. Students were greeted by ATP and AECOM staff and kicked off a seven-week curriculum where they will gain hands-on experience using CAD, learn engineering principles from seasoned transit professionals and make site visits to learn more about Austin Light Rail and ATP partners. Students will develop a plan and design for one of the future Austin Light Rail Phase 1 stops. They’ll cap off the program by presenting their projects. We look forward to an enriching and engaging summer.

  • ATP is making major strides in advancing Austin Light Rail Phase 1 and can announce that the Federal Transit Administration accepted the project into the Project Development phase of the Capital Investment Grants program as a New Starts project. With this news, ATP and the project officially begins the two-year Project Development phase required to receive federal funding. ATP also achieved an important designation in April, when the FTA officially recognized it as an active grantee/direct recipient of federal funds. This critical milestone signifies that FTA has determined that ATP has the legal, technical and financial capacity to manage projects and funds through FTA grant programs. After a robust community engagement period from January 19 to March 4, 2024, a report outlining the National Environmental Policy Act scoping process and activities is now available. NEPA is a federal process that’s required to receive federal funding for Austin Light Rail Phase 1. The next opportunity to provide input will come in fall 2024, when the Draft Environmental Impact Statement is released. We thank the community for your participation and input.
