The Language of War: New Gear Improves Communication WIth Partner Forces Each time the American M1A2 Abrams tanks let loose with their 120 mm smoothbore guns during a multinational live-fire exercise at Bemowo Piskie Training Area in Poland, they are supported with intersecting fire from either side by armored vehicles from Italian, Spanish and German armored units. Officers from those countries, observing the exercise from a nearby tower, nod approvingly after each volley. This is the kind of event that demands precise timing and communication between forces, and it is largely why all these elements gathered. It’s the fourth day of Saber Strike 24 in April, and the demands of a large-scale and high-tempo training exercise only serve to fuel innovation. Multinational interoperability was the key of Saber Strike 24, part of the Defender 24 series of exercises across Europe. Read more about how the 2nd Cavalry Regiment was at the forefront of pushing technology that elevated and improved those capabilities. Read more here: https://loom.ly/B6kHZMY #AUSAorg #AUSA #USArmy

Soldiers Test Next Generation Squad Weapon About 200 soldiers with the 101st Airborne Division tested the capabilities of the Army’s Next Generation Squad Weapon system from Sept. 1 to Oct. 30 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The operational assessment included a range of weapon configurations, force-on-force engagements and static live-fire ranges, according to an Army news release. “The Army needs equipment to continually evolve, to meet the threat of our adversaries,” said Elbert Grayson, supervisory military test plans analyst with Army Operational Test Command, according to the release. “Information is needed to make improvements to the NGSW that will benefit America’s most precious resource, our soldiers.” The new weapon system is slated to replace the M4 carbine and M249 squad automatic weapon, representing a significant advancement in firepower, range and accuracy, and aims to impact over 120,000 soldiers, Grayson said.
