Meet Wendi Kirchner! When you think of the glue that holds an office together, you probably think of an office manager. That’s Wendi. Part of ATAS for almost 14 years, she’s worked her way up from a receptionist in the front office years ago to running the show. Wendi does a legion of things in the day-to-day, it's a struggle to recall everything. “Gosh – I don’t even know, when you think about what you do in a day, right?” she said. Safe to say, Wendi has numerous responsibilities, like overseeing the front office, being an admin for new hires and product reps, assisting with tradeshows, AIA presentations, and more! She works closely with everyone and is always there to help. She's an office superhero in that way. Wendi values her family and spending time with them. They’ve recently rescued a dog that came from an abusive environment. After four months of relationship building, Wendi and only her eldest daughter can pet the pooch, a promising sign of the loving family the dog is now part of. Wendi cites her family as a source of joy in her life, alongside other things. “The sunshine brings me joy, that’s for sure. Family. A good pair of pants that fit nice,” Wendi laughs. Every summer, she and her family try to travel. Except this Summer, with a trip planned for the Fall instead. “In November, I’m excited, we’re going to New Orleans with another couple. (It’s) for the first time, it’s on our bucket list, and we’re celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary,” Wendi shares. A favorite trip of hers was to the Kiawah Islands off Charleston, NC that she and her husband won from a bid as part of a fundraiser a couple of years ago. “It was awesome, it was relaxing, a beach and different adventures, and stuff like that, (we) saw alligators,” she said. Fond memories of Wendi’s time at ATAS involve her family and Peg Bus. “When I first found out I was pregnant, she was one of the first people I told. She was excited when I came into her office,” Wendi said smiling. Wendi inherited something from her parents that she thinks others wouldn’t expect. It has to do with music. “I grew up with the (Grateful) Dead, my parents were Deadheads. I saw them twice back in the nineties,” she shared. As a mother and in her job, Wendi has practical superpowers. But what if she had a comic book superpower? “I would want to be able to read people’s minds because I think a lot of times, people speak differently than what’s in their heads. I think it would be neat to know what they’re really thinking,” she reveals. She doesn’t want to just probe into minds though, it’d be telepathy with a purpose, bridging gaps in communication. “People’s expressions sometimes look different than what you’re actually speaking, so it could be misunderstood. I think that (telepathy) would help,” Wendi clarified. With or without being able to read minds, Wendi is an integral part of the ATAS family. We appreciate all your hard work and thank you for all you do, Wendi!

Employee Spotlight: Meet Mike Rex! Mike Rex has worked in ATAS International, Inc. production for 40 years! He started in the shop at age 19 and if you can name a machine, he’s almost certainly worked on it. “They (younger guys in the shop) ask me how old I am and I say ’59’ and they go ‘Oh my God,’ and I used to say that to the old guys that were here when I was young!” Rex laughs. Rex’s favorite ATAS panel and corresponding machine to operate is Dutch Seam. He runs the machine that manufactures Dutch Seam pretty much every day and can spot it wherever he goes. “(There’s) not so much Dutch Seam around here but down at the beaches I see it,” he said. Rex enjoys his work and especially likes to train newer members of production and share his expertise. When asked if he has a favorite color of the ATAS color selections, Rex revealed an interesting fact! “I’m colorblind so…” he laughs, “I would think charcoal grey. That one is very popular.” Having been at ATAS for so long, Rex has many wonderful memories of working here. “Years ago, we used to do employee picnics and go golfing and stuff,” Rex said. ATAS sponsors Summer get-togethers as a picnic or outing every year. This year’s outing is an IronPigs game outing that ATAS employees can attend, Rex will be there! Some of Rex’s personal milestones and memories include ATAS. “I get along with the family really well (the Buses), they were at my wedding,” Rex shares. Outside of work, Rex has a routine he likes to stick to. After work, he likes to exercise for a couple of hours, getting good mileage on his bicycle if he can, and then unwind with dinner and an evening sitting out on the porch. “On the weekends we go golfing, me and my kid,” said Rex. Rex likes sports and is a Philly fan for everything except football, where he roots for the Raiders. Despite his active lifestyle, Rex has a weakness for a certain food that pairs well with a football game. “I’m a pizza junkie,” Rex shares. Rex has lots of more memories to look forward to, his son is getting married at the end of July, and he has a couple more years until retirement where he can enjoy as much golf, biking, and maybe pizza, as he’d like. We give Rex a huge thank you for his 40 years of service and dedication to his work! ATAS appreciates you!

Meet Bill Peltz! Bill has worked in the construction industry and sales in some shape or form for over 20 years. Before joining ATAS International, Inc. 3 years ago, Bill was involved with the modular buildings sector of the industry. At 68, you’d think that Bill would be considering retirement sometime soon, but he’s a juggernaut and shows no signs of wanting to stop. “I wouldn’t know what to do with myself,” he admits. Bill’s knowledge and experience are no doubt an asset to ATAS, but in the office culture, his jovial spirit, dad jokes, and overall positivity are a large part of what makes him a successful member of the team. Bill is naturally friendly and charismatic but his experiences of hardships in his personal life have had an impact on his daily outlook. “I was paralyzed from my waist down in 1978, I had open heart surgery in 2015, and after you go through that kind of stuff, if you’re not thankful every day and in a good mood – you ain’t gettin’ it! That’s why you rarely ever see me in a bad mood,” Bill said. Bill’s passion for life is almost infectious and it is surely a benefit to his work and daily interactions. He always has a smile, joke, motivational quote, and at the heart of it, is always working towards doing the best he can. He’s great at what he does and was part of an ATAS 2023 Project of the Year award-winning project, Phoenix West in Orange Beach, Alabama, which won first place in the Commercial Roof category. At the time, Bill had no outside product rep in the area, but he stepped up to do everything he had to for the project’s success. Bill reflected on the project, calling it beautiful and mentioning its use of his favorite ATAS panel profile, Techo Tile. “It was nice to be recognized as (a) Project of the Year, and (as part of the job) getting to know someone over the phone and knowing that if they know if they call you – you’ll get it done,” Bill said. Bill is known as a helper by his neighbors in times of need, like when his baker neighbor couldn’t find the screws to put together a tiered cupcake stand the day before catering a wedding. Luckily, when the baker’s husband asked Bill for help, Bill had bits and bobs in his shed to save the day. Bill’s passions and hobbies vary from cooking and barbecuing, supporting the Yankees, and gardening to writing poetry. His gardening results in more generosity. “I had enough vegetables for the neighborhood, so Saturday mornings I’d drop vegetables off at all the neighbor’s front porch chairs,” said Bill. As for his poetry, Bill estimates he’s written over 10,000 poems over the years. He’s even written one based on the history of ATAS, using his unique talent to retell stories of a life or business in chronological order with a catchy rhyme scheme. He performed this poem at this year’s Employee Appreciation Event. We loved hearing Bill recite his poetry then and enjoy his anecdotes in the office. Thank you for all your hard work, Bill. ATAS appreciates you!

The IBM Bromont plant located in Bromont, QC, Canada, opened in 1972. Fifty years later, the facility continues to be a leader in innovation, technology, and continuous improvement with over $10 million invested each year in product and process development. In 2015, IBM Bromont installed 3,000 sq.ft. of InSpire solar air heating metal wall panels, manufactured by ATAS International, Inc., to preheat the combustion air of its central boilers, responsible for steam production and heat for the entire industrial complex. Based on its positive 2015 experience, and given the improvements made on the InSpire solar air heating system, namely the introduction of ATAS’ InSpire HP improved selective surfaces, IBM wanted the InSpire® wall to be part of the new set of energy saving opportunities implemented by SOFIAC. The new 2,000 sq.ft. InSpire® wall, installed in October of 2023, preheats 6,000 cfm of outside air feeding the plant while reducing its carbon footprint by 12,3 tons of CO2, year after year, for the next 25 years. Employee Spotlight: Meet Ron Ramnarine! Ron has been at ATAS International, Inc. for 3 years as a member of production and at only age 26, has worked in the production and warehouse industry for almost 10 years. He, like many others in production, is knowledgeable and equipped to operate several machines in the shop. He particularly enjoys working with ATAS trims. “I truly like working in the trim department. I like the people I work with and I love what I do,” said Ron passionately. Ron is also on ATAS’ Safety Committee, prioritizing open discussions that keep the shop and working environment in good shape. Ron is known for his willingness to share suggestions, not just as part of the Safety Committee, but for other ways ATAS can stay actively involved in the community. ATAS contributes to the communities it’s part of in a variety of ways. For those in production, there’s ample opportunity to see the material they’ve worked on as part of local structures in the Lehigh Valley. The new Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown is a recent example of both ATAS’ community effort and a building artfully applying ATAS materials. “If it’s local I love driving by and showing my girlfriend and my family that, ‘Hey look, this is something I made, I made that specific part right there.’ It’s really interesting and cool to see how it all comes together from a piece to a giant structure,” Ron shared. In his time at ATAS, Ron obtained his real estate license and began to sell houses. He is a motivated self-starter and as he imagines his career and personal development for the future, he still envisions ATAS playing a role. “Ideally, I would like to go into it full time and be able to make it a standpoint, and then slowly work my way into commercial, and then hopefully talk to the company (ATAS) about partnerships, (in the development of buildings)” If Ron isn’t clocked in at ATAS or showing homes, Ron loves watching TV shows, movies, and playing video games. “I think I own 500 hundred movies and I have probably seen triple that amount by now,” said Ron with a laugh. His favorite movie is Pulp Fiction directed by Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino is one of Ron’s favorite directors, which he has film memorabilia for. It tends to fluctuate though, as Ron says his favorite director right now is Edgar Wright. In the instance that Ron would be teleported into a TV series or movie universe as a specific character for a day, Ron would choose to be Jake Peralta from Brooklyn 99. Primarily because Jake is funny, but we think Ron is pretty funny in his own right too. Exciting things are happening for Ron and he hasn’t had as much time to enjoy his media hobbies as he usually does. He recently bought a house and adopted a chocolate-lab puppy that has taken up most of his time. Thank you for all your hard work, Ron. ATAS appreciates you!
