State and local health departments across the U.S. face challenges with data sharing between different levels of government. These barriers impede the ability to make public health decisions in a timely and effective manner. ASTHO conducted key informant interviews with subject matter experts and developed case studies based on conversations with local and state health departments in the State of Arizona, Olmsted County, Minnesota, and Fairfax County, Virginia, to better understand how local and state health departments approach challenges associated with data sharing.
