Aspire's Mollie Farrell, JD, ACC, CPC just returned from a restorative weekend away, which led to some reflections on how to use your communication skills to get a great massage! Very important stuff. Take a look and let us know - are you a "stay silent and hope for the best" or a "speak up to make sure you get what you want" type of client? What gets in the way of providing quick, actionable feedback in the moment? https://lnkd.in/gYXuVW9B

Last week, Kelli and Mollie delivered the opening plenary for the 2024 Annual Meeting of The Missouri Bar - Bridging the Generational Gap in the Legal Profession. The program highlighted some defining moments for each generation currently in the legal workplace today and, importantly, how those moments shaped how legal professionals show up at work. By understanding and appreciating the challenges and opportunities each of us brings to the office, we can learn to communicate more effectively, delegate and provide feedback more impactfully, and generally improve the culture in our organizations.

You may not know this, but Aspire's founder, Kelli Dunaway, JD, ACC, is also a novelist! In today's post, she offers some thoughts on letting go of expectations and being open to possibilities you hadn't even considered -- whether that be in supporting a client, working through a relationship issue or thinking about your career trajectory. Sometimes our well-planned path takes a turn that leads to something better than we could have imagined, if we let it. In what areas of your life might you be open to the possibility of exploring where you might be unknowingly stuck? https://lnkd.in/gcaYq-jZ

This is such a great reframe on the various hours that attorneys work. They all matter and they all contribute to the firm, the firm's clients or the firm's future clients. Casting aside a large percentage of what attorneys must do on a daily basis to develop themselves and their relationships as "non-billable" time undermines the motivation to keep up with these very important aspects of their practice. This is especially true as attorneys are trying to balance client work, family, caretaking responsibilities, self-care, social life and everything else that makes a person successful, fulfilled and happy. How could redefining some of these hours, providing leadership training to create a culture of engagement, and supporting your attorneys at all levels with coaching help your legal organization become even more successful? Kelli Dunaway, JD, ACC and Mollie Farrell, JD, ACC, CPC at Aspire can help you find out!
Law firm leaders who talk dismissively about "non-billable hours" are undermining their firms' infrastructure and hurting their lawyers' morale. There's a better way to describe the different kinds of valuable work in law firms. My newest Substack: https://lnkd.in/gbQs6r6W

Well-Being Week in Law (WWIL) is next week! At Aspire, we coach lawyers and legal professionals to help them identify their values and strengths and work towards the changes they want to make in life to achieve their goals. Well-being - physical, spiritual, intellectual, emotional and social - is a critical component of each of our health and success. That's why we love the Institute for Well-Being in Law (IWIL)'s annual WWIL. Mollie Farrell, JD, ACC, CPC has added Monday's group Peloton ride to her schedule and Kelli Dunaway, JD, ACC will be presenting on pursuing her passion (writing!) on Friday. There are things to read, do, or listen to every day, from getting in some physical movement to sending notes of gratitude to watching webinars on breaking up with alcohol or seeking help for depression. Take a look and let us know what you're most excited about and how you'll participate! Learn more about it and register here - https://lnkd.in/efUQwY4u.

Do you feel frustrated when the junior attorneys you hire don't seem to know what you think they *should*? Maybe their roots need a little more time to develop. See Mollie Farrell, JD, CPC's thoughts on our latest blog post - https://lnkd.in/gjtKnjB6 Contact Mollie or Kelli if you need help figuring out how to provide actionable feedback or how to receive feedback in a productive way!

This month, Aspire's Kelli Dunaway, JD, ACC and Mollie Farrell, JD, CPC spoke with Missouri Lawyers Media about the recent decline in women joining the partnership in law firms in Missouri. See link to article in the comments. Take a look at Kelli's thoughts on why this might be - where ARE the women? We'd love to hear what you think and we, at Aspire, are here to help support your lawyers and organizations!
