As #PrideMonth comes to a close, we want to recognize the work that ASME staff and volunteers have done to commemorate this important time. Members of our Pride@ASME Employee Resource Group set off to Washington, D.C. for a weekend of learning, celebration, and growth. They attended the Capital Pride Alliance Parade, went on a walking tour of historic LGBTQ landmarks, and facilitated a meaningful webinar for ASME staff on the intersection of the LGBTQ community and STEM fields. At our Annual Meeting earlier this month, we honored two individuals driving DEI efforts within our industry. The Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies Inc. Medal was presented to Sriram Sundararajan, while the Lakshmi Singh Early Career Leadership Award was presented to Emily Boyd. We had another exciting announcement at the Annual Meeting—the formation of the LGBTQ Committee! Announced by Amy Betz, Chair of the DEI Strategy Committee, the committee represents the LGBTQ community within ASME and supports the efforts of the DEI Strategy Committee in its work to advance DEI in ASME and the engineering field at large. To round off the month, we also had a new episode of The ASME Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Podcast featuring Kiana Cornish, ASME’s Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Clare Bruff, ASME’s Director of Volunteer Engagement & Diversity. Kiana and Clare took time to discuss the importance of DEI programs, as well as the specific initiatives currently taking place at ASME. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eXnC8uCa Thank you to our Executive Director and CEO, Thomas Costabile, for his support of these efforts, and the tireless work behind-the-scenes from the ASME community.

We are thrilled to announce that earlier this month at our 2024 Annual Meeting, Susan Ipri-Brown was appointed President of the ASME Board of Governors! Nicole Dyess, William P. King, PhD, Lester K Su, and Janis Terpenny were elected to the Board of Governors for the FY25-FY27 term. Additionally, Carlos Beatty Jr., Parisa Saboori, Scott Smith, and Nelia Mazula, MBA, PMP were named Board of Governor nominees for the FY26-FY28 term. Please join us in congratulating everyone on their appointments! The week was filled with celebrations of our leadership, ECLIPSE interns, and members, which included a thrilling demonstration from Jay Flores when our DropMEIn! Program paid a visit to John Adams Middle School in Los Angeles. The program at the 2024 Annual Meeting was robust, and the outcomes will help support how we will advance the mission of the Society, both now and in the future.

What do you get when you combine a team of researchers with expertise in antennas, electromagnetics and mechanical simulation, biomedical fabrication, and more? You get an innovative material that flexes just like skin while preserving the signal strength of the embedded electronics. This breakthrough, achieved by Rice University and Hanyang University researchers, could offer improved signal possibilities for biomedical devices and other wearables!
