Last week Ascend Schools held our inaugural Gratitude Reception to celebrate the winners of the Employee Recognition Program from across Ascend. Was great to see several of our team members get the shine they deserve from peers and leaders in the organization. Shout out to our HR team who put on amazing event and to several board members who made it!

Ascend students expressed gratitude to visit Google and learn how they can become future leaders in computer science! Thank you Hello World CS and Google Code Next NYC for this opportunity!
This week, we had the incredible opportunity to partner with Google Code Next NYC to host students from Ascend Schools, Uncommon Schools, Family Life Academy Charter Schools, Future Leaders Institute Charter School, and KIPP NYC for an unforgettable learning experience. These bright young minds engaged in hands-on activities with advanced tech challenges, enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of life at Google, and discovered the exciting potential that a future in computer science holds. Field trip to Google? That doesn’t do it justice. More like a glimpse into what is possible. We are grateful to collaborate with the amazing Google Code Next team, including Tieliek Curry, Jeremy Cruzado, and Kayla Mendez, and so many others who made this experience possible. Thank you for helping us inspire the next generation of leaders. #helloworldcs #csforall #hwcs #stemeducation #googlecodenext

Something new this year at Ascend Schools are Gratitude Tours. Maryann Li and I have been visiting schools to provide opportunities to not only call out strong instruction and classroom cultures that reflect Ascend's vision but also the growth, even if it's incremental, happening in each classroom and with each teacher. Celebrating the progress and bright spots is equally as important to our collective growth and development as critical feedback. Earlier this week we spent time at Canarsie Ascend Middle School. Thanks to Principal Chris Zilinski and the entire CAMS team!

Ascend Schools educators attended the sixth annual national Black Men Educators Convening (BMEC) in Philadelphia, organized by the Center for Black Educator Development (CBED), this past November. Alongside over 1,000 peers, they connected and discussed the importance of strengthening the Black male teacher pipeline. The Charter School Growth Fund (CSGF) is proud to support our portfolio members' participation at BMEC, recognizing its vital role in driving this impactful work. CSGF’s portfolio includes over 160 charter organizations, with 60% of network CEOs identifying as people of color, and nearly 40% identifying as Black. Learn more about our commitment to diverse voices and Ascend's perspective on this conference in our blog post, 'Diverse Voices, Unified Purpose: Reflections from BMEC 2023 on Black Male Teacher Representation.' https://lnkd.in/g5Eugwsx Thank you Recy Benjamin Dunn Leyde St Leger #Charterschoolgrowthfund #CSGF #Chartergrowth #Charterschools #Charter #Education #BMEC2023
