The cold chain is growing rapidly, but it’s also incredibly fragile. In his recent article, Joe Volpe—VP of the Merck Global Health Innovation Group—takes a closer look at this topic, and how it’s playing out within pharma. One of his key points: issues ranging from refrigeration malfunctions to heat exposure can result in major damage to #pharmaceuticals, and significant costs. To address these challenges, he explains the importance of technological innovation, and how it can lead to a more robust cold chain. Joe also emphasizes that, “as these technologies evolve, they will create a beneficial cycle: increased use of cold chain solutions will drive further advancements, enabling applications beyond pharmaceuticals, such as the transportation of gourmet foods.” In essence, as cold chain technology improves, it becomes more reliable and cost-effective, opening doors to new industries. At Artyc, we’re deeply committed to this type of innovation, delivering cold chain solutions that not only ensure the safe transport of temperature-sensitive goods but also reduce the carbon footprint of supply chains. With our reusable Medstow shippers and integrated hardware-software systems, we’re helping modernize the cold chain while contributing to a more #sustainable future. At Artyc, we make a point of carrying this same mindset into our hardware design. In particular, we believe the best product features reduce friction and drive adoption. After all, in climate tech, it’s the results that matter most.

Decarbonizing the cold chain @ Artyc | Building hardware for the energy transition | 2x founder, 1x unicorn

Climate Week is in full swing! Yesterday, MCJ hosted Tom Steyer for a live podcast recording. He didn’t shy away from hard topics, which ranged from US-Sino climate cooperation to his presidential run, and what he thinks needs to happen to win the climate “war.” One of the things he said that really stood out: “We don’t get points for degree of difficulty.” For me, it’s a reminder that in early-stage climate tech, the best solutions are often the simplest. It also made me think about something I learned when studying for my rock-climbing instructor course, which is how the best solutions are often the most elegant. For example, when placing gear in a crag, the goal is to place as few pieces as you need to provide protection — it’s about evaluating the rock and finding the gear that, placed just right, provides the strongest, most secure outcome. Tom Steyer and Kat Taylor’s foundation, the TomKat Center at Stanford supported Artyc and our vision to electrify the cold chain from the very beginning - thank you for the support!

Sometimes, I can get lost in the minutia of the day to day and miss the forest for the trees. That’s why attending The Drop, one of Europe’s largest climate conferences, was so refreshing. Hampus Jakobsson opened the conference so eloquently reminding us that the climate, the economy, polarization, and trust are all linked. The reason I work in this space is that climate is a systems problem, one that is correlated, and often causally linked, to economic well-being, patterns of migration, human health and more. It extends beyond measuring greenhouse gasses, or rising temperatures (although those are important!); the opening keynote was a prescient reminder that we must understand how global refugee crises, wars, and populism are connected to an increasingly unstable climate. The Drop was an opportunity to pause and reflect. Thank you for having me Pale blue dot, and thanks for dozens of thoughtful conversations.  Alisha Fredriksson, Jack Morrison, Patrick Torbey, Will O'Brien, Duncan Turner, Kerstin Cooley Leone Baron Mikaela Lipsky, Nicole LeBlanc, CPA, Max Blanshard Johan Redelius Mona Alsubaei

Tomorrow is Zero Emissions Day—a chance for all of us to reflect on how we’re impacting the planet. The goal: for 24 hours, try reducing your #emissions as much as possible. It’s a reminder that even small actions add up, and encourages us to think about long-term solutions for protecting the environment. At Artyc, that mindset drives so much of both our mission and product development. Our reusable shippers, for example, transport temperature-sensitive goods like medicines and foods safely, while also reducing waste and carbon emissions. Wishing everyone a meaningful #ZeDay, and let’s keep pushing to make sustainability a lasting part of how we live and work.

Recently, we published an in-depth article with Collaborative Fund. Hannah Sieber and Luisa Sucre explain the importance of the cold chain, the challenges it’s up against, and the solutions we’re building at Artyc. From #vaccines, organs, and medicines to food and industrial products, so many essentials rely on this critical, but often overlooked supply chain network. By electrifying the cold chain, we’re creating a system that’s more reliable, #sustainable, and that improves access to vital goods. 📌 Check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gmMx3ETQ
