About us

ArtWorks is an award-winning Greater Cincinnati nonprofit that creates community-based public art that provides career opportunities for artists of all ages. The organization collaborates with community organizations and residents, businesses, governments, foundations and nonprofits to build creative works of art that bolster the region’s global reputation as an arts destination. ArtWorks employs professional artists who inspire and mentor diverse teams of youth, ages 14-21, helping them build 21st century career-readiness skills. These teams have completed more than 14,000 public and private art projects in its 26 years, including more than 230 permanent outdoor murals.

    TOMORROW! Two back-to-back ArtWorks events, one unforgettable evening. We'll see you in Walnut Hills! "The Lotus Mandala" Mural Dedication 7/26 from 3–5 p.m. Esoteric Brewing Company Designed by Visual and Community Artist Radha Lakshmi, this gateway mural at Historic Peebles Corner is a symbol of beauty, resilience, and unity, embodying the spirit of Walnut Hills. The mural was started by a team of ArtWorks Apprentices in fall 2023 and completed by artists Ryan Little and Derek Toebbe in spring 2024. Attendees will experience a dance performance by Pones and will have the opportunity to purchase limited-edition Esoteric crowlers featuring the mural’s design. Free and open to the public. Presentation begins at 3:30 p.m. "Enchanted Life: Finding Magic in the Everyday" Exhibition Opening 7/26 from 5–7 p.m. ArtWorks' V2 Gallery 929 E. McMillan Street (across the street from Esoteric) Artist-in-Residence Julia O. Bianco and a group of emerging artists invite you to experience the results of their Gallery Fellowship: an exhibition that opens the realm of possibility in our everyday experiences and re-examines discarded objects through the lens of enchantment. Free and open to the public. Works displayed are for sale, with proceeds going directly to the artists. The celebration will continue at 7 p.m. with an after party at Esoteric Brewing. #ArtForAll

Kathryne Gardette is a positive broker: artistic – logistic – civic. She’s the current Walnut Hills Business Group president, an ArtWorks Board Member, and designer of the ArtWorks’ Gilbert Avenue Gateway Mural, featuring West African Adinkra symbols to celebrate the diverse and collaborative neighborhood that is Walnut Hills.

    If you missed Wet Paint last week, you're in luck: We're hosting another event TOMORROW, July 18 from 6-7:30pm at 21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati! Wet Paint is ArtWorks' event series that offers a behind-the-scenes look at our in-progress projects centered on the artists who make them possible. Attendees will hear from Apprentices and Teaching Staff participating in four of our summer 2024 art projects, followed by a talk and Q A with featured artist Matthew Grote (pictured). This event is free and open to the public. We hope you'll join us! About Matthew Grote Grote is a Cincinnati-based artist who produces creative work in every imaginable medium: from painting, drawing, and sculpture to digital art, street art, animation, and toy design. Matthew graduated from the University of Cincinnati – Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning Department’s (DAAP) Industrial Design program. He spent several years as Senior Designer at Fisher Price building, prototyping, and designing toys before working more independently and building an impressive portfolio of clients and partners who include Haney, Inc., Chrysalis, Fisher Price, Spinmaster, and Innovergency. Matthew has worked as a Lead Teaching Artist with ArtWorks on several previous occasions, providing invaluable lessons, leadership, and insights to the region’s young artists employed through the Summer Apprentice program.
