We are so very saddened by the passing of our esteemed colleague Dr. Jaap Boon. Jaap was a a pioneer and leader in the field of molecular research of art. Whether Old Master paintings or Modern works of art, Jaap's brilliant mind helped us understand the multi-faceted complexities of these works. His unyielding passion for artworks and their internal phenomena was awe inspiring and invigorating. Our community has lost a brilliant scientist, consummate educator, devoted mentor and kind person. Our team will miss working with and learning from him.

An intriguing tale of recently uncovered fakes located in museums, private collections and exhibitions--Over the course of twenty years, dozens of paintings from a private collection entered the art market as well as the collections of major European and American museums, only for their provenance to be unravelled by science and some of the world's leading experts. Thank you to the BBC's for featuring ArtDiscovery's role in uncovering fakes and helping to bring greater transparency to the art market in their fascinating documentary brilliant documentary "The Zaks Affair: Anatomy of a Fake Collection." This is also such a wonderful tribute to our esteemed late colleague Dr. Jilleen Nadolny. ArtDiscovery' s extensive studies and analyses of many artists' universally recognized works has allowed us to build a significant dataset on artists' characteristic materials and methods. It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we learned of the passing of our esteemed colleague Dr. Jilleen Nadolny. We understand the shock and tragedy of this sudden loss and our thoughts are with her family and friends during this difficult time. Jilleen made an indelible mark on our company, and team, both professionally and personally. She was one of the world's top technical art historians and contributed so much to the field in an unusually vast way, with expertise ranging from 12th-15th century gilding techniques to Russian Avant-Garde painters to tempera painting to the materials and techniques of Joseph Albers...and these are just a few of many more. Jilleen contributed to the field through countless important publications and we were all fortunate that she so generously shared her knowledge with all of us. She truly cared so passionately about the field and the work she did. We are deeply saddened knowing the world is a lesser place without her.

Did you know that Nike shoes were initially sold out of a van in Oregon during the 1970s? ArtDiscovery had the opportunity to help analyze ‘Geoff Hollister’s ‘Nike 1’ License Plate’, which is a highlight in Sotheby's luxury week “Emergence” auction. Study of its registration stickers using microscopic examination, technical imaging and cross-section analysis helped to determine the number of registration stickers present on the license plate, as well as their likely dates: '74', '76', '78', ‘80’ and ‘82’. Accounts indicate that Geoff Hollister, both a runner and early Nike employee, and Steve Prefontaine, the first runner signed by Nike, began traveling together selling Nike shoes out of a blue Volkswagon bus in 1973, the same year that Hollister recalls ordering his 'Nike 1' plates. By determining the dates of the registration stickers, ArtDiscovery's analysis helped confirm the accounts of Nike’s incredible early history.
