It is Member Monday and we are once again spotlighting yet another of our very active Member Participants - Sawyer Savings Bank!! They have been devoted to the public welfare of the Hudson Valley since February 1st, 1871, when twenty-one citizens of Saugerties petitioned New York State for a charter as the Board of Trustees of Saugerties Savings Bank. The name changed to Sawyer Savings Bank in 1973 — weathering all business cycles and growing ever since. The bank doesn’t have stockholders. All its assets are held in a trust exclusively for the benefit of its depositors. They invest the deposits in the community: building homes, creating jobs, aiding capital expansion and helping the area and its people to grow and prosper. October 28th sets aside National First Responders Day to honor the men and women who act quickly when an emergency is at hand. First responders dedicate their lives to save lives. They are the people who run toward a crisis while the rest of the world flees. According to the Department of Homeland Security, 4.6 million career and volunteer first responders support the communities where they live. They are firefighters, police, emergency medical technicians (EMT), paramedics, and 911 operators. In an emergency, they're the first on the scene. These dedicated professionals answer the call when a crisis arises, often putting their own lives on the line. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, join AFFN, the BAY PINES VA HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS and the JAMES A. HALEY VETERANS ADMINISTRATION HOSPITAL to spread the word on the importance for getting your mammograms. Please check your local VA Healthcare Systems for more cancer awareness resources. When U.S. Navy Veteran Tanya Holland was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was shocked. Then her VA cancer care team stepped in, guiding her through treatment and survivorship in a way she never expected. SAFE Federal Credit Union, founded in 1955, is the one of the largest financial institutions based in South Carolina with over $1.5 billion in assets, nearly 130,000 members, and 18 branches. They’ve come a long way since their early days in 1955-era Sumter County, where fifteen Shaw Air Force Base civilian employees gathered together what cash they had to start a credit union. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or goes to school in Sumter, Lee, Clarendon, and Florence counties, as well as parts of Richland, Kershaw, and Lexington counties. Membership is also open to employees or members of more than 400 organizations located throughout the Midlands, as well as to relatives of those eligible to join.
