Trees and water have a good thing going. Not only is water vital for a tree’s survival, but when it rains, the tree’s roots hold the soil together, slowing down the absorption of precipitation, which removes pollutants, refills aquifers deep in the earth, and provides drinking water for more than 150 million people in the U.S. Trees can also affect healthy rainfall patterns by releasing water vapor through their leaves. That means when large swaths of forests are lost, areas thousands of miles away can experience drought and other devastating climate effects. Forests benefit rainfall, precipitation benefits forests, and water and forests benefit us. And for that, we can't thank them enough. https://lnkd.in/gyvQp8Vb

Not only does the city of Bridgeport have the lowest tree canopy in the state, but the east side has the lowest tree count in the entire city. Tree canopy cover is scant — 5% — with threats of damaging storms or emerald ash borer always looming. The lack of trees also diminishes air quality, creating the perfect storm for respiratory conditions, like asthma, which is prevalent in this community, particularly in children. But the story of Bridgeport is far from one of yet another city that has fallen into disrepair, as residents came together to rebuild the social fabric, health, and vitality of the area with the help of trees. Thanks to our partners at Groundwork Bridgeport, 50 trees were distributed to residents to plant in their yards and neighborhoods that will help save on energy bills, cool their streets, create more green space, and unite the community 💪🌳 https://lnkd.in/gksMc9F5

In this case, money really does grow on trees 🏡 It found that well-tended trees may impact the selling price of a home, as well as the number of days it remains on the market. Although it's difficult to pin down a specific dollar figure nationwide, yard trees in good condition may add 10 to 20 percent to the value of your home. Thank you to House Beautiful for sharing our study conducted with the USDA Forest Service and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Bureau of Business Research 🔎🌳 https://lnkd.in/geR8HmvW

Meet Ibu Rahmah, founder, CEO, and chairwoman of Kopepi Ketiara Cooperative, a highly-respected cooperative of mostly female coffee farmers in the Gayo highlands of Indonesia. In this male-dominated industry, Ms. Rahmah is teaching women how to run their own sustainable coffee practices and forge their own financial freedom. The coffee produced by the members is shade-grown, which helps preserve the delicate ecosystems of the surrounding land, and is of the highest quality, providing an impeccable flavor. Thank you, Ms. Rahmah for everything you do. We’re honored to be your partner in your mission and vision of empowering women to make their dreams a reality.

Come with us to #ClimateWeekNYC ✈️ This year’s theme was “It’s Time,” and we couldn’t agree more. It’s time for climate action to be dominated by actual action. Dreaming of a better, healthier future for our planet won’t make it so. What comes next will grow from what we do right now. Some of our team members got to attend Climate Week as an opportunity to meet with our dedicated partners and convene with the many thought-leaders in our space. If anything was made clear, it was this: The fight against climate change needs the innovation, resources, and reach of corporations and individuals alike. We cannot do this without you. Huge thanks to the Climate Group for having us! 🌳🤝

100,000 trees planted in the 🏔Andes Mountains Decades of deforestation have taken a toll on the incredible Andes Mountains range—one of the longest mountain ranges in the world. The depleted forests have negatively impacted the indigenous communities and endangered animals who call it home. Thanks to our partnership with #TeamTrees and Global Forest Generation, the Acción Andin initiative is in the process of restoring 2.5 million acres of forest by planting hundreds of thousands of native trees. The effort is bringing jobs to the community, fresh water to millions, habitat to endangered species, and hope to the region. It’s one of the many reforestation projects that focuses on planting the right trees in the right places for the right reasons.

In September 2017, the islands of Puerto Rico experienced back-to-back Category 5 Hurricanes: Irma and María. The aftermath of these natural disasters resulted in the loss of 20-30 million trees, destabilizing the natural resources of the islands. The impact of this loss has been devastating for countless communities and wildlife habitats, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian crisis. To help restore these vital ecosystems, our planting partners at Para la Naturaleza have established a new Division of Reforestation to help restore the natural habitats and support environmentally sustainable infrastructures within local communities. This project helped plant trees throughout Puerto Rico to bring environmental benefits to the islands, such as wildlife habitat restoration, flood mitigation, and soil stabilization. It's an honor to work with our amazing partners to restore the beauty and vitality of Puerto Rico's natural ecosystems!

You’ve probably heard of the Inflation Reduction Act, a climate law that gives people big rebates and tax credits to switch to a heat pump or electric vehicle. But the law also contains a much-less-talked-about provision that could save lives: $1.5 billion for planting and maintaining trees that would turn down the temperature in many American cities. But to put the right trees in the right place isn't just showing up to a city and saying "We're here to plant trees," it's about relationship building. https://lnkd.in/gunV2fcp

The secret ingredient in Biden’s climate law? City trees.

Concrete jungle? Not if we can help it. We started #ClimateWeekNYC by planting trees in the heart of Manhattan 🌱💪 Collaboration is a key part of tree planting and it's crucial to addressing the many effects of climate change. We can do more together than we can alone. That’s why we are proud to mark the beginning of this new project in New York City that highlights the power of partnerships. Riverside Park was once the home of an industrial rail yard and over many decades, local leaders have been able to give the site a second life as a greenspace. But they’ve struggled to obtain the resources needed to plant a thriving urban forest. Until now. Verizon, DoubleVerify, Maesa, UPS , Angel's Envy, and DraftKings Inc. have all stepped up to help plant trees in Riverside Park South. The project aims to bring 400 trees to the park, with the first 100 trees planted this week. This work not only unites these six organizations but will also include collaboration from the New York City Parks Foundation and engage Climate Week NYC attendees as volunteers. The trees planted here will provide shade for nearby residents and improve stormwater management. Let's keep this momentum going!
