The Government of India has invested almost $250 billion in the country's water sector during the last decade. These efforts have focused primarily on improving drinking water supply and sanitation. However, the source sustainability of these water supply systems depends on the overall sustainable management of water resources. To identify and support effective water resource management approaches for India, USAID #REALWater held the State of the Science Roundtable in New Delhi: Climate and Water Resources Modeling. Experts from government agencies, research institutions, and nonprofits across India participated in the event and discussed the following questions: ❓ How to link climate and water resources threats in India to drinking water security; ❓ How to position research for uptake by decision-makers in the Indian context and ❓ How to improve collaboration between researchers and the government on data, methodologies, and applications? What are successful approaches to promote water safety among small-scale suppliers who serve the poorest households in cities? The USAID #URBANWASH team in Nairobi organized a stakeholder workshop that brought together multiple stakeholders in the WASH sector. The workshop aimed to bring stakeholders together to reach consensus on improving water quality for small, local suppliers, based on research from an ongoing study in Nairobi. Despite water's vital importance, many people worldwide still lack access to this basic necessity. Effective communication is essential to raising awareness, mobilizing support, and driving action to address this global challenge. However, several factors can hinder effective communication regarding water, sanitation, and hygiene.

#PeerReviewedPublication: How does passive chlorination compare to manual chlorination in small piped water networks in rural areas? Chlorination is the most commonly used approach to disinfect drinking water globally. In many low—and middle-income countries, a common approach called point-of-use chlorination (manual chlorination) encourages households to add chlorine to their drinking water. While chlorine is cheap, easy to use, and widely available, point-of-use chlorination has not been widely adopted in many low-resource areas due to the following; ▶️ The taste and smell of chlorine in the water is disliked. ▶️ People find daily water treatment time-consuming. ▶️ Daily water treatment can be a financial burden for low-income households. ▶️ Many individuals struggle to adhere to daily water treatment routines consistently. Treating water before it reaches homes may be a better way to ensure safe drinking water and protect public health. This study, conducted in southern #Ghana, compared passive and manual chlorination to determine which method is effective for water treatment in #rural settings.
