Welcome to the Orlando Metro Section! We are a division of the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association.

About us

The Orlando Metro section is in Central Florida, and includes five counties: Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Sumter. The Orlando Metro Section of APA Florida is composed of local planners, architects, city and county officials and others interested in the planning profession. We also encourage students and elected or appointed officials to join our organization.

Join us on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 - 11 am for an engaging on-site discussion as we explore how traditional placemaking principles and careful implementation have contributed to creating one of Orlando's most desirable neighborhoods. Earn 2 CM credits while you're at it! Our very own Marcos Bastian, Planning Practice Lead at AECOM, will be presenting. The tour will kick off at 9 am sharp. This year is the inaugural OMS 2024 Awards, honoring excellence and achievement in the Orlando Metro Section. We are thrilled to introduce three categories.  Project of the Year: We recognize a remarkable project that has made a significant impact on a local community in our section. Planner of the Year: Celebrating an individual who has done extraordinary planning work throughout the year.  Student Project of the Year: Highlighting the ingenuity and creativity of a student-led initiative.

  • The OMS Annual Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 6 - 8 pm at Ocoee Lakeshore Center, 125 N Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee, FL. The meeting will include the sharing of the 2024 annual report, financial reporting, the 2025 draft work program, and draft budget. There will also be a panel discussion on AI in Planning led by Sabrina Dugan, Jason Burton, and Doug Kelly for CM credit. Sandwiches, chips, and drinks will be provided.
