Small Presence, Big Impact Nuclear energy has one of the smallest footprints of any energy source. According to energy.gov, “An average nuclear power plant requires about 1.3 square miles per 1,000 megawatts of energy,” and with new investments and advances in technology, they’re getting even smaller. Part of what enables nuclear infrastructure to be minimal is that its fuel is extremely dense. One uranium pellet is roughly the size of a gummy bear, and packs around the same amount of energy as a ton of coal, 120 gallons or oil, or 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas. #NuclearEnergy #CleanEnergy #Energy

"Nuclear is the one that's there all day, every day, all times of the year. And as we look at some of these sources like wind and solar, we expect those to be available as conditions are suitable for them" Team work makes the [grid] dream work ☀️ 🍃 ⚛️ https://lnkd.in/eqK27DfN

🌟 Vistra CEO Jim Burke and Chief Executive Officer at Vistra Corp emphasizes the essential role of nuclear power in achieving a low-carbon future. In a recent discussion, he highlighted that nuclear power is crucial for providing consistent 24/7 low-carbon energy, a necessity that current renewable fleets can't fully meet. Nuclear must be part of the solution, with over 20 companies innovating in nuclear tech. Licensing and investor confidence are key challenges.🔋 Watch the video to learn more! Small modular reactors are advanced nuclear reactors that have a power capacity of up to 300 MW(e) per unit, which is about one-third of the generating capacity of traditional nuclear power reactors. SMRs, which can produce a large amount of low-carbon electricity, are: ➡ Small: physically a fraction of the size of a conventional nuclear power reactor. ➡ Modular: making it possible for systems and components to be factory-assembled and transported as a unit to a location for installation. ➡ Reactors: harnessing nuclear fission to generate heat to produce energy. atoms.iaea.org/3vFf0M7
