It was an incredible honor for our Boston Athenaeum team to accept the Paul & Niki Tsongas Award from Preservation Massachusetts, which recognizes “people and projects that have displayed the highest level of commitment to historic preservation in the Commonwealth”. We were humbled to be amongst such an incredible group of deserving honorees. We are also excited to share that the Boston Athenaeum received the People’s Preservation Choice Award! We had the opportunity to join John Amodeo FASLA of Arcadis | IBI Group last evening for a tour of his team’s involvement in revitalizing the Christian Science Plaza in Boston’s Back Bay. The plaza and surrounding monumental buildings, originally designed by I.M Pei and Araldo Cossutta in the late 1960’s, achieved landmark status in 2010. Arcadis was tasked with making the plaza more welcoming and accessible to the public while providing the necessary repairs to hardscape and revitalizing plantings. The result is a more remarkable public space while the physical changes to the landscape elements have allowed the spiritual and aesthetic qualities of the plaza to remain.   Our previous involvement with the campus involved the renovation of the Library in 2002 with a gesture that opened the institution’s high limestone wall to Mass Ave with a leafy courtyard and glass entrance.

Partnering with STUDIO ENÉE Architects, our Latinx and women led design team is proud to support this important organization in providing a cultural hub for the South End and greater Boston Latinx communities. Our work for Harvard Divinity School has been awarded a Faith & Form Award for Religious Architecture & Art by Partners for Sacred Places! The renovation and expansion of Swartz Hall received an Honor Award in the Religious Architecture: Renovation category. LEED Platinum certified, the project rejuvenates the site and 1911 building in Cambridge, Massachusetts to create a dynamic and inclusive new campus gateway and a spiritual, academic, and social center. It is an honor to work with the OBO Athens team on the rehabilitation and expansion of the United States embassy in Athens, Greece and for the continued attention to its meaningful preservation. We are grateful for the many voices of those who support the advancement of this important project!
