We are excited to announce our new estimate for rural Nigeria is now live on our website. This report estimates a living income for rural areas in the states of Cross River and Benue in Nigeria, with Living Wage in the annex. It uses the Anker Methodology, whereby secondary data from existing household surveys are combined with primary data collected in new fieldwork, as in a typical Anker Methodology living wage and income benchmark study. Anker Methodology Benchmarks are determined by independent researchers. Great care is taken to safeguard this independence and to insulate researchers from political pressures or economic considerations of ability of employers to pay a living wage. This ensures living wage estimates accurately reflect costs for a basic but decent standard of living for workers and their families.Independently determined living wage estimates are an important input for wage-setting processes, notably social dialogue, collective bargaining and minimum wage setting, that also take economic factors into consideration. Presenting our work to stakeholders such as producers, suppliers, workers and unions is a vital stage in our research process. Study findings are presented to stakeholders to give stakeholders opportunity to query results and provide additional information prior to independent finalization and publication of living wage estimate. During the Living Wage and Living Income IDH summit in Amsterdam this week, the Global Living Wage Coalition hosted an event to celebrate 10 years of the GLWC. We presented a short video that showcased why the Global Living Wage Coalition was formed, how it started and what its achieved over the last 10 years. This video is a beautiful opportunity to meet the trailblazers who started the GLWC, the expert global researchers behind the Anker estimates and the champions behind the standard setters who are turning the research into action. Anker Research Institute is proud to be part of the GLWC and grateful for the unwavering support and collaboration throughout the years from the GLWC’s members. The GLWC’s commitment to utilizing our living wage and living income estimates and advocating for living wages has been instrumental in advancing all our missions. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us. Special thanks to @Dayanna Mejia for creating a beautiful video and to our members and contributors. ARI’s Gender Lead, Sally Smith, presented our research on gender pay gaps in global supply chains at the #IDH Living Wage and Living Income Summit 2024. She highlighted that, although the size and causes of gender pay gaps vary greatly between workplaces and countries, there is almost always a #gendergap to a #livingwage. To close the gaps, a structured, holistic approach and collaboration is needed that involves all stakeholders. Full details and recommendations for different actors can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eF5J4pJg Email Sally for more information or to get involved: [email protected]

Our Gender Lead, Sally Smith will be presenting ARI’s research on gender pay gaps at the IDH Summit on Living Wages and Living Incomes on June 26th. She’ll be talking about why gender and wages/incomes are inextricably linked and what can be done to close the gaps. If you’re going to the Summit, you might want to listen in! Most country wide and global estimates use web-based data collection and do not address within-country differences in living wages and living incomes. The ARI ONLY use data from transparent reputable sources and consult with local stakeholders for research and review. The Sub-National Estimations are comparable between themselves and with Anker benchmarks and Anker Reference Values, keeping the consistency and the comparability of all Anker Estimates worldwide. This is important as the correct number is vital in ensuring stakeholders have the right information, they need to close the living wage gaps, and these sub-national estimates are the answer to this problem See link below to read more about Sub-National Estimates. https://buff.ly/3XctOOh #livingwages #livingincome #subnationalestimates #Brazil

Understanding the true impact of living wages goes beyond numbers - its about people. Involving stakeholders in measuring living wages is crucial for holistic insights. Their perspectives and knowledge ensures a more accurate and empathic assessment. This is one of the reasons why we don't use web-based data, we only use reputable data and take the time to talk to stakeholders instead.
