The Kili Challenge 2024 Adventure Is Starting 🗻🚴
AngloGold Ashanti’s Lorraine Perumaul, an Environmental Specialist in our Johannesburg office, will put her training into practice from today, 19 July, as she starts climbing Mt Kilimanjaro after arriving in the town of Moshi in northern Tanzania yesterday.
Lorraine is participating in the Geita Gold Mine Kilimanjaro Challenge, which raises money for the GGM Kilimanjaro Challenge Against HIV & AIDS Trust.
She is sponsored by AngloGold Ashanti and a portion of the sponsorship will go to the Trust, which together with key stakeholders, including the Tanzania Commission for AIDS, has supported more than 100 projects across Tanzania since it was founded in 2002.
Lorraine and her fellow climbers are taking the Machame route which has the highest summiting success rate and is the Kili Challenge’s favourite climbing route.
The climbers will start the trek on the south-western side of the mountain and from there, the route will start to steepen as they climb northwards, traversing the Shira Plateau and eventually reaching the Uhuru peak summit.
Today the climbers will hike 18 km through the Montane rain forest from the Machame Gate at an altitude of 1,490m to the Machame Camp at 2,980m. The hike will take about seven hours.
Whether you are a seasoned climber, someone fit enough and with the mental and physical stamina to summit Kilimanjaro, or a mountain biker who wants to complete a route at the base of the mountain, take a look at our website https://lnkd.in/d-9k5PME and consider registering for the 2025 challenge.
