We're back with the answer to this week's #TriviaTuesday question! To better understand the relationship between social factors and social isolation, the Cognitive Sciences team at AnalyticsIQ queried a representative sample of US adults. We found that interpersonal skills are a critical predictor of social isolation, but only when a third factor, social reciprocity, is considered. Social reciprocity is the giving and receiving of social support in relationships (i.e., balanced mutuality). In our sample, better interpersonal skills led to more social reciprocity, which in turn lead to lower ratings of social isolation. Is this what you would have expected?
