AMSURG and our ASCs are observing Falls Prevention Awareness Week, Sept. 23-27. This nationwide observance, organized by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and the Falls Free Initiative, raises awareness on preventing falls, reducing the risk of falls and helping older adults live without fear of falling. “During the July fall prevention lunch and learn, we put a call to action for centers to take the ZERO harm pledge,” said AMSURG Sr. Director Clinical Risk/Patient Safety Stacy Bennett, BSN, MSPSL, CPPS. “We accomplished increased awareness [and] visibility and highlighted the importance of reporting.” Inspired by the campaign, creative Center Administrator Donna LaCardi and Director of Nursing Charlotte Palushaj designed and wore T-shirts featuring yellow non-skid socks that read, “Please Don’t Fall for Me.” https://bit.ly/3BkxggT #ASCs #Healthcare #FallPrevention

ASCA’s National ASC Month is over, but their commitment to education, advocacy, and support for ambulatory surgery centers across the country continues. Todd Currier, CASC, CPA, FACMPE, and Center Administrator for AMSURG’s Bend Surgery Center in Bend, Oregon, also serves as a member of the ASCA Board of Directors. “I highly encourage all Center Administrators and leaders to become involved with ASCA, and learn about the Member Resources, Education, and Advocacy that the organization provides. Involvement is vital to the success of our industry as ASCA is constantly working with federal and state legislation to break down barriers and enhance the care that we all provide. We must support the organization that supports us.” Additionally, Todd serves on the ASCAPAC, fighting for more access for patients to care at ASC’s. “ASCAPAC is unfortunately, more often than not, pushing against more bureaucratic and regulatory burdens trying to be placed on our industry.” AMSURG is proud to support the efforts of ASCA as we work to provide the best experience for patients at our 250 ASC’s across the US.
