What is AmeriCorps? It's a commitment to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering.     During AmeriCorps' 30th anniversary, we’ve released our new animated video to share how members, volunteers, and more address our nation's most pressing challenges while creating pathways to transform the lives of those served and those who serve.    #AmeriCorps30 #Launch #Volunteerism

AmeriCorps' 30th anniversary celebrations come to an end. AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith reflects on the yearlong celebrations:   It was an honor to join our members, volunteers, alums, partners, elected officials, and friends over the past year to celebrate 30 years of AmeriCorps!     In Sacramento, California, along with our partners at USDA Forest Service, we welcomed the first cohort the AmeriCorps NCCC Forest Corps, a key component of President Biden's American Climate Corps. These 80 young leaders are taking on forest management, wildfire prevention, and ecological restoration across the nation. These members demonstrate how our commitment to equipping the next generation with the skills necessary for climate careers will turn this moment into an even more unstoppable movement to fight climate change.   In New Orleans, I had the opportunity to see intergenerational service in action during the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, the world's largest annual wheelchair rehabilitation sports event exclusively for veterans. During the event, we signed a new MOU with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which will mobilize members of AmeriCorps NCCC and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers to support the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, Veterans Golden Age Games, and other VA-organized events for our nation’s veterans.   Just last week, in New York City, we celebrated promises kept and new partnerships launched. At Clinton Global Initiative, Pinterest CEO Bill Ready and I shared the commitment we made last year to tackle the youth mental health crisis is now the Youth Mental Health Corps, a bold new partnership between AmeriCorps, Pinterest, the Schultz Family Foundation, and America Forward that will place more than 500 AmeriCorps members to serve as mental health navigators while learning about related careers. Later, at a New York Climate Week event with Google, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan and I announced the creation of a new American Climate Corps program, the Environmental Justice Climate Corps. EJCC is the largest federal environmental partnership in AmeriCorps' history and the EPA's first nationwide service effort. Through the new partnership, hundreds of members in AmeriCorps VISTA will serve across the country, helping organizations in underserved communities address environmental justice and climate challenges while gaining the skills and experience for good-paying clean energy and climate careers.   While our thirtieth birthday celebration has come to an end, our commitment to bringing out the best of America to get things done for America is just as urgent and unstoppable as it has ever been. Whether it's helping students learn to read, rebuilding homes after disasters, or providing second chances through service, AmeriCorps members and volunteers commit to transforming lives – including their own – every day. Thank you for celebrating AmeriCorps with us. Bit.ly/30thRecap24 #AmeriCorps30

During National Recovery Month, Public Health AmeriCorps Director AJ Pearlman shares how #NationalService has been answering the call to address our nation's substance use disorder crisis:     The opioid epidemic is an ongoing crisis that affects hundreds of thousands of Americans and has devastating effects on individuals, families, workplaces, the health care system, and communities. For years, AmeriCorps has been at the forefront of addressing this challenge and helping our communities combat substance use disorder.     In 2022, AmeriCorps joined forces with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to launch Public Health AmeriCorps, which recruits, trains, and develops the next generation of public health leaders while supporting the nation's public health needs, including substance use disorder. Our members in Wisconsin demonstrate the power of national service in recovery. Julie, an AmeriCorps member navigating her recovery journey, is serving her second term with Public Health AmeriCorps. Julie created a peer-to-peer support program to help other women in her community facing the same struggles. Through the program, Julie offers weekly support meetings, group exercise classes, one-on-one recovery coaching, and a free clothing shop, changing the lives of women living in recovery.     I'm grateful to be a part of this fight and to hear from the public health community and program directors how essential AmeriCorps members' service is to increasing recovery efforts across the nation. During National Recovery Month, I thank our members of Public Health AmeriCorps, like Julie, who fight our country's ongoing public health crises. Thank you for your courage and your commitment to support individuals in recovery.     Bit.ly/RecoveryBlog24    #NationalRecoveryMonth #Careers #PublicHealth #Recovery
