The leading professional society for engineers, scientists and other professionals in the field of naval engineering.
About us
American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) is the leading professional engineering society for engineers, scientists and allied professionals who conceive, design, develop, test, construct, outfit, operate and maintain complex naval and maritime ships, submarines and aircraft and their associated systems and subsystems. The seventh oldest technical society in the United States, it was founded in 1888 by a group of naval engineering pioneers, most of them officers of the U.S. Navy's Engineering Corps, who sought a unified approach to their profession in order to make the most of new advances in technology. ASNE also serves the educators who train the professionals, researchers who develop related technology, and students who are preparing for the profession. Society activities provide support for the U.S. Navy; U.S. Coast Guard; U.S. Marine Corps; U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. Army. For more information on ASNE and how you can get involved, visit our website www.navalengineers.org

Design Strategist, Scientific Diver, Project Manager at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
I have recently taken on another podcasting role. I am the host for "Talk a Little, Learn a Lot," the podcast of the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE). The title is an homage to Rear Admiral Wayne Meyer's, "The Father of Aegis," concept of "Build a little, test a little, learn a lot." In the most recent episode, I interviewed Vice Admiral David Lewis, USN-Ret, the ASNE President. He discusses the sea change the Navy is experiencing in technology, the nuances of exploring vs exploiting technology, and his vision for the future of ASNE. I recommend giving this podcast a listen, subscribing on Spotify, and if not a member...consider joining ASNE. https://lnkd.in/e7hetR-C

Another day of excitement at American Society of Naval Engineers’ Multi-Agency Craft Conference! We walked the exhibit hall where students spoke with Vanessa Elliott, Maritime Program Manager at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The partnership with STARBASE Victory has continued to be wonderful, and it was wonderful to see their leadership and distinguished guests stopping by to see students in action. Special thanks to USNA alum Kelly Brown for getting into the weeds of the boat builds. The Maritime Mania has been active and we have lots to celebrate on our final day! If you are available, we will be celebrating these students at the @Children’s Museum of Virginia along with our wonderful Advanced Training in Defense Manufacturing’s GO TEC® Virginia program partners from 1-2pm. The City of Portsmouth, Virginia could not be more welcoming. Thank you to Mayor Shannon Glover and Councilman Mark Hugel, and all the offices and agencies that came together to support Portsmouth City youth. This week was truly inspirational thanks to the entire community's support. Interested in supporting this impactful outreach? Donate to “K-12 STEM” here: https://lnkd.in/ejdpzWwR

Wow! Day 1 of ASNE’s Multi-Agency Craft Conference (MACC) was full of excitement! Over 50 students from across STARBASE Victory summer camps were able to walk on the Stiletto and learn about how the Navy integrates cutting-edge technology into the fleet. Thanks to expert planning by Andrew Vasquez and support from the US Navy and Crofton Diving. The City of Portsmouth, Virginia welcomed all MACC attendees, and The Honorable Mayor Shannon Glover kicked off festivities with a proclamation and inspiring words about the day's connected activities and how they strengthen our future. At the Children's Museum, Maritime Mania students added bows and sterns to their first wooden hulls while hearing Eric Kleinschmidt share exciting technology at General Dynamics Mission Systems. Students in the GO TEC® Virginia camp augmented their competition robots. We again thank Councilman Mark Hugel and everyone in the STARBASE program making these camps possible!
