Catching up with the South Baltimore Community Land Trust (SBCLT): South Baltimore has long been a dumping ground for single-use plastics and mixed waste. Toxic air pollution endangers nearby schools, and communities have been displaced to make room for waste facilities. Despite efforts, illegal dumping persists, with 10,000 tons annually. High eviction rates exacerbate the problem, disproportionately affecting Black and low-income neighborhoods. SBCLT works to put power back into the hands of the community by creating permanently affordable housing, development without displacement and zero waste in Baltimore.
