"The doctor told my parents I wouldn’t survive the trip to the hospital. Now, 36 years later, I’m married, thriving, and working at the very organization that saved me." Kami Sutton-Hieronymus, our Region Grassroots Manager and a congenital heart defect (CHD) survivor, has turned her life’s challenges into a driving passion for helping others. After undergoing 20 heart surgeries, she knew from a young age she wanted to work for an organization that played a vital role in her journey. Today, Kami proudly represents #TheAHALife and the mission of the American Heart Association for her career. "Thanks to advances in research, new medications, and treatments funded by our amazing organization, I was able to find stability in my heart health. Now, I get to give back and help others with CHD!" As we acknowledge today as #WorldHeartDay, Kami invites you to celebrate those who have made this journey possible. ❤️ "I want to thank each and every staff member, volunteer, donor and sponsor for their dedication to this mission! Without you, patients like me would not be surviving into adulthood. Congenital Heart Defects used to mean a short life span, but thanks to the American Heart Association, that is no longer the case!"

Managing a new business comes with pressure, and feeling overwhelmed is natural. When stress builds up, take a moment to practice mindful breathing. This simple technique can help you regain focus and clarity when you need it most. The Empowered to Serve Business Accelerator finalists are preparing to compete for $75,000 in grants. Through this program, the American Heart Association supports entrepreneurs with innovative solutions that improve health outcomes, access, and equity. What advice would you give these impact-driven business owners as they get ready for their final presentation?

Leading into #NationalDisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth, we’re excited to announce that the American Heart Association has once again been recognized as a Leading Disability Employer by the National Organization on Disability (NOD) — marking our fifth consecutive year receiving this honor! As part of our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in #TheAHALife, we strive to foster an inclusive, supportive environment for all. The NOD, a private, non-profit organization, evaluates companies across six key areas: strategy, talent sourcing, people practices, climate and culture, talent outcomes, and workplace accessibility. We are truly honored to be included again in this year’s list of employers!
